THE DAY OF THE YULE BALL WAS A WHIRLWIND OF CHAOS. The corridors buzzed with students scrambling to finish last-minute shopping, finalizing dates, and perfecting their appearances. Deleine, however, was among the more prepared lot. Despite her claims of indifference, her excitement was palpable. Especially when she learned that all her friends, herself included, had secured dates!
Yes, Indigo had managed to find a date—though it was rather astonishing. None other than Winston Longbottom. Phenix and Kenneth decided to go "as friends," while the rest of the group had paired off with their own dates. The girls had all converged in Cassia's room, surrounded by an array of beauty products and elegant attire.
"Cass, do you have any mascara?" Phenix called out amidst the flurry of activity. Cassia, not missing a beat, tossed a sleek black tube across the room with a practiced flick.
"Catch!" Cassia said, her tone playful as Phenix fumbled to grab it. Deleine settled into a chair, her gaze fixed in the mirror as Indigo carefully styled her hair. It was an intricate creation, cascading in gentle waves and pinned into a stunning, elaborate updo. The precision of Indigo's work was evident; it was truly a masterpiece.
Angelina and Indigo were the only ones already dressed, while Cassia, Phenix, and Deleine were still in their robes, rushing through the final preparations. Indigo, finished with Deleine's hair, gave her a gentle pat on the shoulder. "Hurry up! Dresses on! We're leaving soon!" she urged, causing Cassia to scramble for her own dress.
The trio hurried off to change. First Cassia, then Phenix, and finally Deleine. When Deleine emerged in her deep blue gown, the room fell silent. Her friends stared in awe, the room filled with an atmosphere of surprise and admiration.
"I can't believe it. We've turned D into a fashion icon," Cassia said with a broad grin, her eyes wide with delight. Deleine rolled her eyes, though she was clearly pleased.
"Do you think George will like it?" she asked, smoothing down the fabric nervously.
"Did you seriously just ask that?" Angelina replied, looking bemused.
"Ignore her," Cassia chimed in with a dismissive wave. "Deleine, George would adore you in a sack. He's head over heels for you. You're out of your mind if you think otherwise." The other girls burst into laughter, their cheerfulness contagious. "And you're absolutely stunning!" Cassia added enthusiastically.
"Seriously," Indigo agreed, giving Deleine an encouraging nod. Deleine exhaled deeply, finally allowing a smile to break through her nerves. She gave a small nod, signaling she was ready. The girls returned to their preparations with renewed energy, the excitement building.
