THE YULE BALL HAD LONG SINCE ENDED, and Deleine lay sprawled on her bed, staring blankly at the ceiling. The room was dimly lit, casting shadows that danced across the stone walls, but she paid them no mind. Her thoughts swirled in a fog of confusion and frustration.

Indigo perched on the edge of Cassia's bed, watching Deleine with a curious frown. "What's up with her, then?" Indigo asked, her voice laced with both concern and annoyance.

"Not a clue," Cassia replied, shaking her head. "She's been like that for the past two days. She'll have to move eventually, though, once classes start up again."

Indigo leaned forward, narrowing her eyes at the unmoving figure on the bed. "Deleine!" she called out, her tone sharp enough to cut through the thick silence. Deleine gave the smallest of glances in her direction, barely acknowledging her. "So you're not dead, then," Indigo quipped.

"No," Deleine groaned, the sound muffled as she rolled over, burying her face into the pillow with a heavy sigh.

Indigo exchanged a look with Cassia, both of them bewildered by Deleine's sudden retreat into herself. The usually fiery girl was now a silent, brooding shadow of her former self, and it was unsettling. The room was thick with unspoken questions and the lingering remnants of Yule Ball memories, memories that seemed to weigh heavily on Deleine's mind.

The soft rustle of bedclothes and the muted light filtering in from the enchanted windows created an atmosphere that was both cozy and oppressive. Deleine's thoughts were a tangled mess, and all she could do was try to drown them out by pressing her face deeper into the pillow, wishing the world away, if only for a moment.

"Are you and George still going at it over Phenix?" Indigo asked, tilting her head as she looked at Deleine.

Deleine shook her head, her eyes still half-closed. "Nah."

Cassia raised an eyebrow. "Have you confronted Phenix, then?"

Another shake of the head. Indigo sighed, clearly exasperated. "So what's your issue, then?"

Finally, Deleine dragged herself up into a sitting position, her hair tousled. "I kissed George in the Astronomy Tower," she confessed, her voice barely above a whisper.

Indigo practically choked on air, while Cassia's eyes widened before she clapped her hands together in glee. Deleine groaned at their over-the-top reactions and promptly flopped back onto her bed, covering her face.
