IN REAL LIFE

after school, hockey practice was in full swing. melodie was passing the puck back and forth with a new friend she made. his name was nathan, nate for short. just talking to nate, she figured out he and chris are childhood best friends. and chris is a triplet. when was he ever going to tell her that?

chris sat on the bench, watching melodie and nate interact. he couldn't help but feel jealousy as he saw them two passing the puck back and forth, laughing and cracking jokes. he tried to act casual, but it was hard for him to keep his eyes off of melodie. his mind was racing with thoughts, trying to figure out if anything was going on between her and nate. he knew they were friends, but was there more than that?

"so, he's a triplet?" melodie asked nate.

nate nodded a smile on his face, "yeah, chris has three brothers. one older one named justin. he's chill. but he has two identical brothers. i can't tell them apart sometimes." he chuckled and continued speaking, glancing over in chris's direction. "they're all hockey fanatics. they've been playing for as long as i can remember. it's like it's in their dna or something."

"okay, so you said the oldest is nick but he doesn't play hockey, and the middle one is matt?"

melodie said, making sure she got her facts right.
nate nodded again, "yep, that's right. nick's the oldest, but he never really liked hockey. he's more into photography and stuff. then there's matt. he's more reserved but the most serious and dedicated one out of the three. and obviously, you know chris."

"oh yeah, trust me i know chris. he's a yapper for sure." melodie laughed.

nate laughed at her comment, nodding, "oh man,
you're telling me. chris can't keep his mouth shut for more than five minutes. it's like he was born with a permanent monologue going on in his head. good player though, gotta give him props for that."

"oh yeah, of course." melodie grinned, finding herself amused by the thought of chris's perpetual chatter.

nate chuckled again, shaking his head as if remembering some memory, "chris can be a pain sometimes, but he's a good guy. we've been friends since our diaper days, practically best friends. he might be a loudmouth, but deep down, he's got a heart of gold." melodie looked over in chris' direction. sure, he's loud and very flirtatious, but he seems sweet.

chris, still sitting on the bench, noticed melodie's gaze. he tried to play it cool, pretending to be focused on tying his skates. but secretly, his heart skipped a beat as her eyes met his. he wondered what was going through her head. he pondered if she actually saw any good in him at all. he quickly looked away, not wanting to get caught staring at her. god, why was she affecting him like this? he was supposed to be the suave, carefree hockey captain, not some lovesick puppy.
