The college buzzed with a frenetic energy. Whispers of Rudra's brawl with Sidharth echoed through the hallways, punctuated by shocked gasps and hushed speculation. Sidharth, the once-untouchable bully, was reportedly nursing a bruised ego and a broken arm in the hospital, a fact that sent shivers down the spines of even the most hardened students.
Rudra, however, remained the picture of nonchalance. Or at least, he tried to be. His usual swagger seemed a little forced, his gaze a touch distant. His friends, ever perceptive, bombarded him with questions.
"Dude, is it true you beat the crap out of Sidharth?" asked Akash, his voice laced with awe.
"Yeah, Rudra, spill the details!" chimed in Yohan, leaning forward eagerly.
Rudra sighed, his irritation barely contained. "It wasn't a big deal," he mumbled, pushing himself up from the bench. "Just a little disagreement."
He wasn't interested in reliving the fight, or the strange sense of protectiveness that had fueled his actions. The image of Rohit, his face bruised and scared, kept flashing in his mind, a constant reminder of the unexpected turn his life had taken.
Suddenly, a wave of perfume and a breathless giggle announced Sonia's arrival. Rudra's old fling, known for her short skirts and even shorter attention span, sashayed up to him, her eyes gleaming with mischief.
"Rudra, darling!" she exclaimed, batting her eyelashes outrageously. "Haven't seen you in ages! You simply must come to my party tonight. Everyone's going to be there!"
A low groan rippled through Rudra's friends. Sonia's parties were legendary for their chaotic mix of people and substances, and most of them had already endured one too many.
Rudra wasn't particularly interested either. The thought of loud music, flashing lights, and fake conversations held zero appeal. But then, a traitorous part of him saw an opportunity. A chance to drown out the nagging voice in his head, the voice that kept asking why he cared so much about a bruised freshman.
Sonia, sensing his hesitation, leaned in closer, her voice dropping to a conspiratorial whisper. "Come on, Rudra," she purred, her touch lingering on his arm. "It'll be fun. Just you and me..."
The implication was clear, and a flicker of something cold and familiar ignited within Rudra. He straightened, a smirk playing on his lips. Maybe a night of mindless distraction was exactly what he needed.
"Alright, Sonia," he said, his voice laced with a dangerous edge. "Consider it a done deal."
A cheer erupted from his friends, though their enthusiasm seemed somewhat strained. Rudra ignored them, his gaze fixed on Sonia. For a moment, the image of Rohit receded, replaced by the familiar thrill of the chase. He was Rudra Singh, after all. And Rudra Singh always got what he wanted.
