Castiel draped on his dark blue apron and stepped behind the counter for the very first time. It was his first day working at the Paradise Coffee Shop, as he needed at least a small amount of money to help pay for college. He also didn't want to spend a whole lot of time in his freezing dorm room. The temperature outside was slowly starting to drop lower and lower as October was coming around.

Charlie had warned him that since the shop wasn't a chain restaurant, and the crowd of other shops near it were in a small town, the days wouldn't be busy. But he decided that this job would be something to lay back on whenever he wasn't studying.

Castiel pulled up a cushioned blue stool from under the counter and sat down on it, pulling out his phone. Soft, calming music fluttered from speakers as the smell of baking goods and coffee beans wafted through the air. Charlie was probably out back, preparing everything.

Fifteen minutes passed, maybe five or six people were served or sitting at one of the tables set up around the edges of the shop, until the front door abruptly burst open with the usual clink of the bell, except for the fact that it was more vigorous.

"I'll be having my usual, Charlie!" The figure announced, stomping over to the counter where Castiel was standing. It was then that he got a good look at the newcomer.

He had dark brown hair, startling green eyes, and freckles that were dotted across his face, giving him an innocent look. But the rest of him wasn't innocent whatsoever. Tattoos swirled and intertwined over his arms, and he had a piercing in his ear. His dark black clothes gave the impression that he wasn't to be messed with. Castiel wondered grimly what someone like him was doing inside a cozy store like this, but as much as he wanted to refute it, he'd be lying if he said that this person wasn't good-looking.

"Coming right up!" Charlie called out from next to Castiel, rushing out back to get the stuff for him.

He came to a stop in front of Castiel, and leaned on the counter, making him have to look up to see him. "So, you're the one replacing Jo, huh?"

His voice made Castiel feel awkward, and it could show even as he spoke, his voice cracking. "Y-Yeah."

His awkwardness made the stranger smile brightly, his teeth flashing underneath the lights from the ceiling. "What's your name?"

"Castiel," he muttered. He hated how he felt around this stranger, but he knew that it was obvious for him to do so. He was gay, after all. But he was surprised at how quick he was feeling shy and aloof around him.

"I'm calling you Cas. I'm Dean," he introduced himself, holding out his hand for Castiel to shake. He took it wearily and shook, but quickly dropped his hand and bunched up a handful of his apron in embarrassment. He was being stupid.

"I'm a regular here since I love the coffee and pie. And plus I work right across the street from here. At the tattoo place," he pointed out the window, towards a shack-looking red building with shiny black shutters covering the windows. The word 'Tattoos' was emblazoned across the top of the building, lights rigged to it most likely to be shown when it got darker. It was about two-thirty at that time.

"That explains-" Castiel brought up his hand, referring to Dean's arms.

He laughed and held out his arms as if he just noticed the dark ink staining his skin. "What, you don't like tattoos?"

"No, I actually have one. It's just not visible," he stated simply. Silence rang through the shop, and Castiel glanced behind him, wondering what was taking Charlie so long.

As if she heard his thoughts, she came out with a brown paper bag in her hands and a cup of steaming coffee. "Here ya go, Dean. So... You've met Cas I see."
