Chapter 4

 POV: Maven Van Dune

"Maven," Scarlet says.

She shakes me aggressively, somehow, it's not bothering her that it is still the middle of the night, and I am still exhausted. When shaking me to death doesn't work, she kisses me awake. "If I wake up, will I get more of that?" I mumble though I am now wide awake, and she knows it.

"Maybe..." She whispers.

I open my eyes expecting to see the same slightly ruffled girl I saw yesterday, instead, I see her in all her glory. "Fuck," I breath. Her hair is done in a style that makes her look exactly like royalty, but it's the matching crowns that she has in her hands that sends me over the edge. I grab her shoulders and pull her to me, kissing her harder than I ever thought possible. I press her down onto the bed, not daring to do anything else so as not to damage her perfect exterior.

"You are so damn lucky that I haven't put on my makeup yet," she hisses at me breathlessly, getting out of under me and off the bed. She slides the dress in her hands over the dress she was already wearing and takes off the one underneath it.

"Get dressed in this," she says in a tone that tells me to hurry up, handing me a blood-red suit that she got off a hanger.

"Okay," I reply. At that she turns away so I can have somewhat privacy. It only takes about a minute for me to change and she is already getting annoyed with how long I'm taking. "Done," I state.

"Finally, you're finished!" Scarlet whisper-yells as she puts on her crown then hurries me out of the tent.

"Do you mind telling me where we are going?"

"Oh, Maven, I must have forgotten to tell you! Tonight is your first Blood Council meeting,"

"What! Why am I even going, I'm literally the son of the person you are trying to take down."

"I'm not trying to take down your father, I'm trying to take down all the people sending all the people in the districts to their deaths."

"What am I even going to do there?" I ask, calming down.

"You will see," she tells me mischievously.
