WHAT AM I doing with my life? you asked yourself. your whole life you've always been so focused on work. you thought this job would make you happy since it's all you ever wanted to do, which was help people, but you lost yourself in the process.

work was starting in two days again. the hospital was completely rebuilt, and everything would be back to normal. so why were you so devastated? maybe it was because, during the break, the only thing you could think of was work. you couldn't find one other single thing to put your energy into.

you did visit your parents and hung out with friends now and then. but hanging out with them only made you realize how much you'd missed out on.

everyone you knew had a life outside of work, even your best friend keerah. you both had the same job, yet she didn't revolve her life around work. now she was already talking about marriage plans with her boyfriend.

you sighed as the wind rustled through your hair. you were sitting on your balcony, contemplating your life. not being busy with work had driven you crazy when it was all you knew.

you looked down, seeing kids on the street laughing, couples in love, and families spending time together, looking like they were living their best lives. you stood abruptly from your seat and marched back into your apartment because this was just making you depressed.

you were always so ahead of everyone because of how determined you were, but now it feels like you've been left behind. when did this all happen?

you collapsed onto your sofa and groaned, shoving your face into one of the pillows. you were going to do something about this. you couldn't live your life like this forever.

you were never usually the one to make plans, but you knew things had to change, starting now. you took out your cellphone and dialed keerah's number. as expected, she answered right away.

"hi keerah! if you're not busy today, could we go somewhere?"

"y/n, i never thought you'd ask! i'll be there in twenty, and dress nice!" she screamed and hung up.

you winced at the loud sound, but you were just happy she was down for it. you couldn't even remember the last time you'd gone out. you'd only go to places when it was absolutely necessary, like the supermarket or quick runs to the store to grab something.

you got up from your couch and walked to your room. you decided to put in an effort and listen to your friend's words. if she said dress nice, that meant everyone else would be, and you didn't want to look out of place.

you looked into your closet and found a f/c dress and a pair of heels. you got changed and did your makeup and hair how you wanted it.

once you were done, you looked in the mirror and were shocked by the results. "i actually look pretty good when i'm wearing something other than nurse scrubs."
