Florence lounged in her white-themed bedroom at the White Castle, scrolling through her Instagram feed in search of something entertaining. Instead, her feed was inundated with lovesick fanboys simping in her inbox, Komen's threats of retribution following the invasion of Downtown and the Downtowners' protest in the city hall. As a Highborn, she was expected to support her people, but she had never been a team player. Thus, just like her parents, she chose to stay neutral by not commenting on those posts. As she continued scrolling, she came across a post by someone she loathed passionately: Carmen Deschanel, her brother's girlfriend. Just seeing Carmen was enough to ruin her appetite, yet Florence couldn't pinpoint why she hated the girl her brother loved. Some speculated it was jealousy because Carmen was just as pretty as she was; others, like her brother, said she was psychotic; and some dismissed it as one of her usual pranks. However, only Florence knew the true reason as to why she harbored such resentful feelings toward that French woman.
As Florence contemplated her life, she heard a soft voice with a Malindorian accent at the door politely calling her name.
"Here is the chocolate pie you asked for, ma'am," said Asha respectfully entering Florence's room.
Normally, the scent of freshly baked chocolate pie would make Florence forget her troubles, but the sight of Asha still in the White Castle caught her attention.
"What are you doing here? Didn't my mother give you a break or something?" Florence asked in her American accent.
"I am waiting for my grandmother to have her friends released from City Hall, then we will leave together, ma'am," Asha replied politely.
"It's Asha, isn't it?" Florence asked.
"Yes, ma'am," Asha replied, bowing her head.
"Come, have a seat next to me," said Florence inviting Asha to sit on her bed, making it the second time in a day she was offered a seat by a member of the Imara family.
Florence showed Asha the ongoing protest of the Downtowners at City Hall on her phone, but Asha was completely unaware of the situation so she tried to shed some light.
"I don't want to ruin your hopes, but your grandma's friends are not being released today," Florence tried to explain.
"Why, ma'am?" Asha asked sorrowfully.
"How do I say it?" Florence began with a sigh. "Your people are protesting for the release of those who were unlawfully arrested. But the system is owned by the Highborns, and as a Highborn, let me just say we don't like being bossed around," Florence explained.
"Is there anything you can do to help?" Asha pleaded.
Seeing the concern in Asha's eyes, Florence reassured her by saying, "I will talk to my parents."
She then showed Asha more posts about the ongoing conflict between the Highborns and the Downtowners. As she did, she noticed that Asha barely knew how to use a smartphone. Furthermore, her body language revealed she was clueless about the common social media platforms.
Out of curiosity, Florence asked, "Do you have a phone?"
Asha showed Florence her buttoned Nokia phone and with a smile, she said, "This is my phone, ma'am."
