Having that burning and ticklish feeling of having salt water pushed down your esophagus is always torture...especially if you wake up to it. In this situation, our teen woke up to the same misfortune but still thankful for waking up. Unwillingly coughing as soon as they woke up. Sitting up and leaning over to help get the distasteful water out of their lungs. Soon feeling that sore tenseness in their stomach as if they were going to throw up, luckily stopping at the start of that feeling.
Itchy sand and the small cuts on their body were the least of their concerns. The black-haired child was just glad to get out of their so-called home. It never felt like a home to them, but that's what the others called it so they guessed they should just call it that too. Looking at their black hands that were covered in fresh, burning scabs, memories flooded in from when they were climbing the barbed wire fence that kept everyone in, well, besides the instructors and scientists who had access to the outside world.
They didn't even have an actual name, just numbers and letters that they didn't even want to remember anymore. B1260A. That was the name they were assigned. It was sorrowful, well at least for them. All they wanted to do was live their life as a normal human once they found out that the condition they lived in was not what every person lived in. Most of the people there were willingly put in there, but why didn't they get that choice but what almost everyone else had.
Why were they in a facility though? It was probably from their ability. How it took in a physical form besides just having an ability overall. If they ever met someone they could and would be able to be spotted out by them if they showed skin out in public, that was how noticeable it was. Fading, pitch blackness from the top of their head to their nose, feet to the middle of their calf, and the tips of their fingers to the middle of their forearm. It wasn't a big deal with the arms and legs but it would be hard to hide the head.
With those thoughts, their violet eyes stared into the green-tinted ocean, the same eyes that were filled with the same memories of the facility. Hearing the waves hit the sand and rocks with the same ears that remember the echoing sound of the halls. Feeling the wind with the same skin that went through the torture of shots and the sickening experiments that the scientists put them through. Thinking with the same mind that went through all of the ways of how to escape or how to kill the people that ran the whole thing...and existing with the same body that lasted to 16.
The sun beats on their skin as they stay in the same position. With each minute that passed, their skin only got redder and redder. Snapping out of their thoughts, they looked around for a tree to shade them. Fortunately, there was. They got up and shuffled over to the tree, legs frail and shaky. Once they got under the shaded sand they collapsed against the tree sitting down and resting their head against the hard, light-colored, wood. They pulled at their damp shirt collar that was tightening against their neck.

Along with the sun getting lower and lower, the escapee's energy also got lower the longer they stayed awake. Although, they couldn't help but look at the setting sun that was filled with oranges, reds, yellows, and pinks. It was so captivating. How the water caught a moving pattern of the ombre of the dazzling sun and the exquisite sky. How the chirping Seagle in the sky contrasted in color with the deep vibrant hue. It felt relaxing. Was this what it looked like? Is this what a sunset looks like? They've never seen one, they've only heard of it. But the word makes sense now, now knowing what it looks like.
