I rise as blood drips from my nose and lip. He cackles at me with the bat still in his hand. I look up at him as unwanted tears roll down my face. He laughs even harder. I stare dead into his eyes as he swings the bat at me again. I close my eyes and raise my arms to protect myself even though I know it won't do anything. The pain shoots through my body. From my head all the way to the soles of my feet. Even more blood drips onto the ground, forming a puddle around me. I brace myself for the impact of another hit. But then I hear commotion. I look up to see the boy, aka my bully, being attacked by a bird. A dove! The boy drops his bat, covered in my blood, and runs away. I lay there on the ground, panting. I'm shaking. The dove flies over and settles next to me. I turn my head to face it. It looks like it's smiling, proud of what it's done. I pick myself up and stumble to the little house I'm forced to call home. The doors wide open when I get to the house. I know somethings wrong. I walk inside and let out a soft gasp. "Oh god... " I say in a soft whisper. There's a lifeless body laying on the ground. There stands my mum with a knife in her hand, packing a bag. It takes me a second to realize the dead body on the floor is- no sorry- was the man I knew as my father. My mums in the middle of lugging a huge suitcase out the door when she spots me. "Tell no one." She tells me sternly before she walks down the stairs, through the front yard and into her car. I stand in the doorway shocked. The doves sitting on my porch railing, staring at me. I close the door and lock it. The bird flies on through the window and sits on my shoulder, like it's there to protect me. I can't help but smile, even in a horrible situation like this. There's a blinding, bright light and then the doves gone. Instead, there's a boy standing next to me. I shriek in fear and he jumps back. "Hey! I'm not gonna hurt you!" He tells me. I try and calm myself down. "I'm gonna help you." I stare at him, trying to analyze his look. He's wearing a plain, black T-shirt under a clean white shirt. He's got a pair of black dress pants on as well. He has multiple rings and a silver chain shaped like a cross. It's hard not to notice how beautiful he is. He had a freckle under his cat-like right eye. Their a deep blue. Almost enchanting, but dangerous, like the sea. He has a slim nose and beautiful lips. It's like everything about him is amazing. His short, black hair falls onto his forehead and covers his left eye. He loves his hair out of his eye with a swift movement of his head. I nearly scream when I see that his other eye is a bright shade of red. Even if it's just a little frightening, it's beautiful. "Hey!" He snaps me out of my daze. "A-are you human?" I ask him in a light whisper. He shakes his head. "A dove?" He nods. "Is that it?" He studies me for a second. "Nada." He says. "Then what else are you?" I ask, expectantly. "An angel?" He nods again. "Half demon, too." He snaps his fingers and now he's wearing a red shirt with the same black dress pants. His hair is gelled back wth6a few strands falling onto his forehead. He snaps his fingers again and he's back to how he was before. "Why are you here?" I ask, reluctant. I kinda don't wanna know the answer. "To protect you." He grins.
