"Esmé wake up you lazy girl! You're gonna be late for school again!"

I rolled around in my bed, my hair a hot mess and my pajama pants somehow rolled up to my thighs.

"But mooooooom-"

I whined but was quickly cut off by my mom barging through my door holding a spatula, her hand resting on her hip.

"Don't make me tell you again, Esmé."

I sighed and my mom left the room closing the door, but not without accidentally catching the back strings of her apron in it.

She quickly pulled them out and walked down the hall, shouting again for me to hurry up.

I finally got up, brushed my teeth, and fixed my hair, throwing on my clothes and grabbing my bag.

I had on my navy blue top and skinny jeans, paired with my black and white converse.

"Breakfast, Esmé!"

My mom said as she placed a plate of eggs, a sausage, and small pancake on the table.

"Thanks, mom."

"Mhm."

She hummed as she kissed the top of my head, turning back to the stove to grab the pan and place it in the sink.

She put on her rubber gloves and started to wash dishes as she talked.

"So, are you walking with Michael today?"

I put my fork down, sounding irritated.

"Mamá, c'mon, will you stop with him. Please?"

She frowned and sighed, turning off the water and looking at me.

"What happened to the two of you? You used to be so close."

I shrugged, poking at my egg with the fork.

"Nothing. We just grew up. He doesn't matter, can you move on? Please, mom?"

She looked at me with a sad face before sighing again and nodding.

"Alright, alright. Finish your food and go to class, you don't wanna be late."

I hummed, shoving the last of it in my mouth and giving her my dishes.

I leaned my head down, allowing her to kiss the top of my head before rushing out the door, still chewing.

"Love you, Esmé, be safe!"

"Bye, mahm, swe yu towight!"

"Don't talk with your mouth full in public!"

I finally swallowed as I flung the door open.

"I won't! Love you!"

I got in my car heading over to my classes.

College is a hell of a ride, but it's a hell of a lot easier than high school.. in some cases at least.

I pulled into the student parking lot and turned off my car.

Bang

"Esmé!"

"Ah! Kayden what the fuck is wrong with you!? Get your dirty ass hands off my windows!"

She laughed, opening the passenger door and grabbing my bag from off the seat.

"Hurry up we're late!"

I scoffed and got out of the car, locking it.

"Hey, I didn't ask you to wait out here for me. There's no reason you should have to be late."

She punched my arm as we laughed and walked to our lecturing hall.

We both already knew Professor Callaway was going to make a joke about us being late again, but we both didn't mind them all that much.

Plus, he's hot, so any chance to get to hear his voice is a good one.

She pulled a fresh pop tart from her bag and gave me one half of it, so I shoved it in my mouth, taking out my folder for today's lesson from my bag as we reached the lecture hall.

We walked in and saw Toby and Sarah sitting up at the back of the hall where we usually sit.

"Well, Kayden.."

He looked over at me and raised a brow with a cheeky smile.

"..Esmé. Funny to see you two again.. late. You know I don't remember putting out a notice that my class would be starting 10 minutes later from now on."

I giggled, "I think that may be a good idea though, Professor Callaway."

"Professor Cal, Esmé. Now, please take your seats."

We nodded and made our way up to our seats, but my eyes wandered over to the right side of the room, where I saw Michael sitting with his friends.

They were all snickering and laughing to themselves.

I made eye contact with Michael, and we both scoffed and looked away, going back to our own business.

"Fucking Assholes." I shot them a dirty look and Kayden punched me in the arm.

"Esmé, watch your eyes!" She said as she dragged me up to our seats.

"Damn, girl, can you not."

"Don't complain, hurry up."

Professor Cal cleared his throat and redirected everyone to the chalkboard.

"Back to English, can anyone tell me what Sesquipedalian means?"

The class laughed.

About an hour and a half later the bell rang for class to end.

"Make sure to have your homework submitted by Friday, have a good day everyone."

Everyone packed up and left, the first ones heading out the door being Michael and his little "posse".

Kayden grabbed my shoulders, urging me down the steps.

"Esmé, c'mon hurry up. We gotta go across campus-"

"Esmé? Can you stay after class?" Professor Cal called out from his desk at the bottom of the lecture hall.

I looked at him before looking over at Kayden.

She smirked throwing her hands up in the air. "See ya later, Esmé."

She winked and giggled before I kicked her and she ran down and out the door.

I made my way down to Professor Cal.

"Did you need something?"
