Dear Diary,

Sophomore year has officially started! I'm pretty nervous...but I'm Kim Minji! I can do this! Hanni and Hyein texted me a couple of minutes ago asking if I wanted a ride to school, but for some reason, I want to walk today. I hope today brings me good fortune.

After writing in her diary, Minji got up from her desk; stretching, and yawning. She glanced at the clock- which read 5:45 am, and decided to head out of her room to eat breakfast. While Minji wasn't quite the 'early bird' type, she wasn't able to find sleep due to first day jitters.

Minji's feet carried her to the refrigerator, where she took out some milk. She settled on a small bowl of cereal, and plopped her exhausted frame onto a chair. While crunching on some cocoa puffs, she felt a dull vibration on the table. She took a quick glance at her phone, and did a double-take.

"No way..." She muttered, as she scrolled through her Instagram feed. "No way, no way, no way." She continued chanting, as she went through all of the photos in the Instagram post.

Minji's #1 competitor since middle school, namely Oh Hanna, had just posted a picture of herself in Greece. Now normally, Minji would've just scoffed and moved on because she knew deep down that she was better than Hanna. However, this wasn't a 'normally' type of situation.

Because cradled in Hanna's arms, was Jung Heesan. The same Jung Heesan that promised Minji forever. The same Jung Heesan that hurt Minji so deeply that her scars had yet to heal. That same ex boyfriend (ex disaster, actually) was now taking lovey-dovey photos with Oh Hanna. It's only been a week since they broke up! How could he move onto a different person that fast? And that wasn't the only thing that pissed of Kim Minji. It was the fact that he got with her #1 competitor.

Minji sighed, turned off her phone, and closed her eyes. Memories of herself and Heesan flashed through, and before she could stop it, a lone tear escaped its way out of the corner of her eye. She wiped her eye quickly, and finished eating her cereal. As she put the dishes away in the sink, she heard her mother walking into the kitchen. "Minji, did you sleep well?"

"Yep, I'm so excited for school...!" Minji replied, trying to sound as cheerful as possible. As if it actually fooled her mother, Mrs. Kim brought Minji into a tight embrace. "I can't believe my baby is a sophomore already! Gosh, you've grown so much. It seems like yesterday you were digging your boogers and e-"

"Okay, that's enough mom!" Minji squeaked out, as she squirmed away from the hug. Minji gave her mother a cute little smile. "I have to get ready, so I'll meet you down here at 7:00?"

"You got it!" Her mother responded, as she walked over to the coffee machine. Minji sighed of relief, and moved quickly into her bathroom. She looked into her mirror, smiled to herself, and gave herself a mental pep talk. Then, she got ready.
