Unchangeable Promise - A Harry Potter Fanfic

(-Chapter 1-)

That night I dreamed of an eagle. Its glistening deep oak brown feathers were mere inches from me, its mighty head pointed at me. I looked into a pair of golden-flecked eyes that seemed to be deep pools of understanding and infinite wisdom. I reached out to it, almost brushing its pearly beak. Suddenly it reared back and gave an earth-shaking cry before rising high on wings the size of dragons. I covered my face from the wind, almost getting knocked over. When it died down enough for me to look, the enormous eagle was a mere speck in the sky. Its cry still rang in my ears, and somehow it sounded...urgent. Warning. Chills crept over me, the hairs on my arms standing up. An instinct made me turn and a bone-chilling scream came out of my mouth. A towering snake, one with piercing eyes the size of 5 Quaffles, was staring at me. I was paralyzed, my feet refused to unglue themselves from the floor. I could only stare helplessly at its figure slithering closer and closer.

Just when it was about to trample me or worse, the brilliant hazel feathers flashed with a thundering shriek as the eagle attacked the snake. I marveled at the two colossal titans fighting, neither seemed to be winning. I turned my head and felt the grip on my shoes lessening. I struggled to move forward as I heard the cries of agony. My head whipped back around to see the snake's fangs gripping the Eagle's shoulder, its eyes shining in victory. It coiled its vibrant emerald scaled body around the injured eagle who could only make desperate pecking attempts at freeing itself. I watched in horror as it seemed to totally smother the eagle, letting out a ear splitting hiss.

The hiss spiked as a light grew between its coil, spreading all through its scales. A deafening roar of a shriek burst forth, the eagle shooting up into the sky glowing in golden light. I found myself smiling and cheering it on. Its golden disks of fury stared at the snake as it dove towards it. The two titans were brooms lengths away when the golden light enveloped the two. I fell back, clutching my eyes which had gone dark. As the black splotches covering my vision faded away, I frantically looked around to see the winner but there was nothing. Nothing but miles upon miles of charred ground. I staggered over to where the two had fought seconds ago. The ground was just as barren as the rest. I felt a light sensation crawl up my spine. I let out another shriek as a smaller version of the giant snake was wrapping itself around my shoulders, its mouth open to reveal its razor sharp fangs. I watched as if in slow motion as it sank them deep into my shoulder, the pain like two searing rods plunging themselves into me.

I sat up straight, a coat of sweat covering me as I heard footsteps pounding up the stairs. I released my white knuckle grip on the sheets and tried to gulp in air. The searing sensation lingered as my door burst open to my parent's tired frantic faces. My dad, in his navy blue grandpa robe, held up his wand and made all the lights flicker on in my tiny room.

"Whats happened?! Is there someone here?!" He asks me out of breath. My mom was clutching her wand in one hand and her robe in the other. I slumped back.

"Sorry, bad dream." I say in a scratchy voice. The two visible relaxed instantly and my mom walked over to me, sitting down on the edge of my bed. She looked at me with her comforting smile. 

"Sorry baby. Those are the worst." She says to me and I felt a peace fall over me. "Try to get some rest though alright? You've got a big day tomorrow." She says and kisses my forehead gently before getting up and returning to my dad's side. 

"Night sugarplum, remember its all ok now." He says and they close the door. I turned over on my back, my head cradled on my pillow. This uneasy feeling settled inside my stomach. I knew this was only the beginning of the troubled nights to come. Somethings coming.
