The bell rings, signaling the beginning of first hour. The calendar reads "October 26th." I grab my bag and exit the classroom, almost passing a brightly coloured poster reading: "Fall Dance, October 31st, 5:00-11:00 PM"
I stop and examine the poster's fine print. "In the common space on the sixteenth floor, formal dress" I turn back towards the homeroom, and Liam passes through the door. "Hey, Cass!" He waves at me. I can feel my face heat up as people turn to see who the boy is shouting at. When he catches up to me I elbow him in the chest. "What was that for?" He snorts indignantly. "You sound like an overexcited puppy" I punch his shoulder. He laughs and rubs it, pouting.

After first, second, third, and fourth hours pass, I head to lunch hour, which I don't share with him. After I grab some of the cafeteria food, I wander aimlessly, looking for a table. A pale girl with lilac hair sits alone in the corner of the cafeteria. I begin to walk over to a chair at her table, but I'm beaten by a dark skinned, lean boy.
I slow down and circle the table until I reach yet another of the open chairs. I sit down, And the boy nods at me. "Hey" the girl says, but more like it's a question. I decide that this may be a good time to introduce myself. "Hey, I'm Cassidy, but you can call me Cass, I'm a sophomore" the boy snorts "What is this, one of those games they used in elementary school when we had to learn each other's names?" The girl gives me an apologetic look. "He's not usually this snarky, but he's never sincere" she smirks a but at this. "I'm Jaqueline, and he" she pauses to point at the boy. "Is Mac." "Like the computer?" He gives me a murderous glare. I take a bite of the hamburger on my tray. We pick at our food for a bit, but no one says anything. Jacqueline breaks the silence by picking up her tray, stating "Well, its been fun, but I've got to get going." I nod "Me too" and awkwardly follow her. I turn back and Mac is still slouching, picking at his Tiki Masala.
Jacqueline turns to me. "I need to talk to you, come with me." Without waiting for an answer, she grabs my hand and pulls me away.
