William
Leon was the son of one of my mother's friends. He lived in a 3-storey house 2 streets away. It was right in front of my school and he was leaving home for work while I was going to school. He would never look at me unless I said hello. He would usually look away, and when I greeted him, he would say hello briefly and get in his car.
The day I saw him for the first time, I normally wouldn't go there, but we went to Aunt Daisy's house by my mother's force. I just ate food and listened to neighborhood gossip. At the time when my distress reached its peak, Leon returned from work. I stood there with my mouth open, with the food I was about to eat. Doesn't he seems like it's a bit too much for this city?
When he entered the house, he greeted his mother, changed his clothes and then came and sat next to me. I think he liked me too. (Definitely)
The only empty seat was next to me. Until the guests disperse and go home, the aunts say, "When are you getting married, Leon?" He answered their questions. I really liked his voice that day. Every time he spoke I melted in my seat. Noticing my shyness, he turned and tried to talk to me, as if he was annoying me. My neighbour, my dear mother-in-law, talked about me and told him that I was a student. He also asked me which department I was studying. When I told him that I was studying interpreting, he grimaced and stopped talking to me, and I cursed my choices once again.
......
"Dude, are you stupid? He's a police officer. What if you text from a private number? He can find you again."
I called my best friend Hasan to the park to tell him that I texted Leon from a private number. My shame grew even more as the things he said were right. I texted a police officer like an idiot.
"Dude, I didn't think of that." I put my head on the table of the pergola where we were sitting. "You fucked up good, idiot. If he finds you and fucks you, it's not on me. I'll pretend I don't know you."
"Dishonorable." I huffed again in annoyance. Then I looked at the time. By the time Hasan finished scolding me, it was 9 o'clock, we had already met late. "Let's go." I stood up saying. I turned to Hasan, pointing to the grocery store nearby. "Are you coming?" He shook his head. "No, it's already late, I should go home." I nodded my head okay. Hasan's house was in the opposite direction, so I said goodbye and walked towards the grocery store.
As the time passed, the weather got colder. I shivered with the wind blowing on my skin. I accelerated my steps and entered the grocery store. It was hot inside as always. I bought noodles and a few chocolates to eat. When I got to the cash register, a familiar voice called out to me from behind. When I turned around, I saw Leon. It was obvious that he had just returned from work. He was wearing a coat and uniform. After staring at him until my mouth watered, I corrected my posture and looked at his face with the question he asked.
"What are you doing outside at this hour?" He asked this with frowning eyebrows. "I was just returning from my friends."
"I hope your mother knows." Amidst the questioning looks of the grocery store brother, "Yes." I replied. He turned and walked towards the cash register with a look that showed that he was not satisfied with my answer. When I came to him, I left what I had in my hand at the counter. "Take this handsome man's money from this card." He handed over his card. I looked at Leon sheepishly. "No need, I would pay." He smiled and looked at me. "You are a student, keep your money in your pocket."
"Thank you then." I said, taking my own bag in my hand. He turned to me and smiled again.
"You're welcome, sir." Even though his joke was disgusting, I laughed and left the grocery store. I had forgotten how cold it was outside because of him. When I shivered again because of the sudden cold, Leon looked at me. "Is it reasonable to walk around without a coat in this cold? Are you a child?"
"I didn't take my coat because I thought I wouldn't stay out too long." He opened the car door and showed inside. "Come in, I'll take you home." I think this much kindness was enough in one day. "Home isn't far. I can walk."
"Not in this cold. It's already on the road, let me drop you off." I got in the car without further insistence. He got into the driver's seat and started the car. I felt very embarrassed next to him. And it was the first time he talked to me for such a long time. Except for the messages, of course.
"So tell me, Mr. Will, what is the reason for you staying out until these hours?"
"I told you."
"I don't think it's enough. You stayed out until bedtime." I looked at Leon with a grimace. "Am I a child?" He laughed and continued looking at the road. He looked very charismatic when he smiled. My gaze stayed on his face for a while before moving to his hands. As he held the steering wheel, the veins in his hands seemed to become more visible. When bad scenarios started to come to my mind, I shifted my eyes to the road. I sighed involuntarily.
"What is it? Are you tired of my interrogations?" He was looking at me with a joking face. "Sorry, I forgot that was your job." I said, looking at him. For some reason, I felt like I was becoming a child with a child. He laughed again and stopped the car. We had already arrived in front of the house.
"If I see you outside at this time again, I will distract your mother, you cannot go out." After looking sideways, I shook my head. "Anyway, thank you for dropping me off."
"Always. If you have any problems, you can always call me."
"I don't want to be more embarrassed" I said and got out of the car. When I got to the door, I looked at him. He was waiting for me to enter the house. I smiled, waved and entered the house.
I was just realizing that my heart was beating like crazy.
