The word had spread that Percy had indeed chosen to accept the quest. Drea wondered what had convinced him, but she was grateful nonetheless.
Soon enough, it was announced that specific pickings of demigods would be chosen to be options for Percy to pick from for the quest. Specifically cabin counselors or older demigods. Drea was neither of these 2.
Chiron had chosen Sylvia to be the representation of the Apollo cabin because she was the cabin counselor, but she told Chiron that Drea should be the representative half-blood and not her. She knew how badly Drea longed for a quest. Sylvia said if she wasn't an option for Percy to pick, nobody from the Apollo cabin would go forth as a candidate.
Drea was extremely grateful but Sylvia told her she'd do it again in a heartbeat. Especially because she didn't want to go on a quest anyway.
Prior to the ceremony, Annabeth and Drea were sitting in an Arts and Crafts session. Drea always loved the class because the little girl in her always appreciated a macaroni-art-type of creation.
Annabeth, on the other hand, was annoyed.
"Why are we sitting in an arts class when we're about to go on a quest? We should be training or something." She complained, tossing out a handful of paper scraps. They hadn't actually been guaranteed the quest, but Annabeth liked to speak in affirmations from time to time.
"You're so boring, Annie. Let yourself enjoy the little things in life for once." Drea mumbled while intricately cutting a string.
"What are you even doing?"
"Sshh."
Drea slightly poked out her tongue while concentrating. She was stringing together tiny sea shells, with grains of sand still all over them, onto a bracelet.
"Where did you get those?"
"Plucked them from the shore."
Annabeth was interested as she watched her attach a final charm, in the shape of a tiny wave, on the bracelet. It had a variety of shells but every other shell was switched out for a pooka shell.
"You're not really a jewelry kind of person. What's that for?"
"For Percy." She proudly held it up to show her.
"For Percy?" Annabeth snickered.
"Just a little bribery."
