Chapter One

*~Ambrie’s POV~*

It was dark, very dark-- It was night. I’m scared-- terror struck me once I heard the unidentified voices. Not too long ago, about two minutes, I woke my little brother up from his slumber.

“Ryan,” I whispered while shaking him frantically. Unknown footsteps, sounds like two pairs, were heard from my kitchen-- their shoes slowly creeping around my condo room.

I gasped silently and shook Ryan harder, “Ryan please wake up!” The boy stirred in his sleeping, “Huh?”

I quickly covered his mouth and pick up his tiny body. I crept towards the closet and placed his small body inside, “Stay quiet, stay here. Okay?” He nodded his head and scooched towards the back of the small closet. I closed the door and crept over to my bed. I pulled my small gun out from under my bed and hugged it into my chest.

I secretly guided my way next to the bedroom doorway and peaked my head through. The coast seemed to be clear, but I heard rummaging somewhere. I’m not sure where but I knew that they were close.

My hands were shaky, my breaths were quivering-- but I silently crept my way into the living room.

I’ve never encountered an intruder before-- I’ve always been the intruder. It was my job, I had to do all my missions. If I don’t... bad things would happen to me. It has happened to many people before, but I can’t imagine what happened to them. There are many rules for TSAA, and if you break too many, there will be consequences.

I stopped myself outsides of the doorway to the kitchen. The light flicked on and two people were searching for something. I’m not sure what they are looking for-- I have nothing to hide...

It’s just like training, Ambrie. Just go inside and point your gun at them, I thought to myself. For some reason, it calmed my nerves and I took a step inside. I quickly pointed my gun a the two strangers, but their backs were facing me.

I heavily breathed which caused them to slowly turn around. One was a man, a man in his mid 40’s-- maybe early 50’s. He had tan skin with a few wrinkles across his forehead. He had brown going onto grey hair. His eyes were a dull brown, but were very beautiful. It was a strange mix, it was hard to explain. I turned my gaze over to the women that stood not too far from him. She had light brown hair, slightly lighter because of it greying. She must be a little younger than the man, because she also has a light amount of wrinkles. Her eyes were a light blue, it was almost as clear as water.

They looked oddly familiar... then everything clicked. It seemed like a switch in my brain flicked on and then I knew.

I dropped the gun, a loud clunk sounded as it hit the floor. I am shocked, my mouth was agape and my eyes were wide. Soon they became filled with tears.

Mom? Dad?” I asked in disbelief.

They lightly smiled as they both stepped closer to each other and wrapped an arm around each other's waist, “Hello Ambrie.” they said in unison.

my body became numb-- I lost all feeling in it. I can no longer move, I was too shocked to budge.

“B-but, How? Y-you guys... are dead.” A tear slid down my cheek-- i’m not sure if it's from happiness or sadness. My mind is jumbled and it left me confused.

They ignored my questions and said the last thing they told me before they died, “We love you, Ambrie. Please take care of Ryan. We know you’ll be an amazing big sister. Promise us that you’ll take care of him.”

Tears kept coming, but I smiled through them. “I promise,” I said lightly, wiping away a few tears.

I took a few step forwards but they kept the same distance away. Confusion was written all over my face-- I took another step forward but it seem liked the atmosphere moved with me. I couldn’t reach them-- I began to take fast steps, but once again, everything moved with me. I began to run, run towards my parents. The parents that I will never see again, only in my memories. But I couldn’t reach them, no matter how much I run. My surroundings became fuzzy and started to disappear.
