The Special Commission

I am not a bad person as people around me think about me. Of course, the job and responsibility as an eremite give you a, rather unpleasant look of merchants. Your relations always stayed professional and nothing beyond that. I don't think any merchant had ever said a simple hello to me when we met outside of our deals. I don't mind this really to be honest. I have a company too. He doesn't respond often, and when he does, I don't understand it.

"Sammy! Today was an amazing day! The merchant gave me a little extra and look!! I brought you some food."

Sammy is a sumpter beast. He has been with me ever since he was little. Somehow I understand what he went through. We weren't different when it came to past scars. Me and Sammy were for each other for a long time and now we have grown a connection that words might not describe. He had been with me in every good and bad time.

It was almost the time when I had to leave the 'cave adobe'. It is a small space inside a cave well hidden. Some of the Eremites that were close to me know about it. They weren't my friends cause I never really had any to begin with. But they just knew it cause they needed info about me. They never came to this place cause it's not a place that people can stay at. But I don't exactly have a choice. There's a saying Beggars can't be choosers. That's my condition right now. It has a place where I placed a long Canopy Leaf to sleep on and there's also some supply of food and medicine which I brought from the Rainforest with 3 pairs of clothes. That's all but more than enough for me and Sammy to survive.

I left my little 'cave adobe' and took Sammy with me to the Base of the camps. I would get the mission that I have to carry out and get paid for it. I was raised and trained by these people. I am not sure whether to call them my family or not. Cause I don't get along with many of them. There were some people in camps who cared about me but soon, they were all buried into the sand. This is whatever life offers to those who live as an Eremite. We might have longer life span than these sumpter beasts. Well how long do sumpter beast lives?

"Hey! Sammy, What is an average life span of a sumpter beast?"

Sammy didn't respond this time. Usually he shake his head in either agreement or disagreement or make a growl which I just can't understand. But he is the only ear I have right now. The ear who could listen to my womp womp.

Either way, I reached my camp and saw Sir Abdul handing out the commissions to eremites. I went towards him and was waiting about to take one handout but he refused and said:

"Your getting a special commission today Vikram. Mr. Khan wants you to carry out this commission. You should go ahead and talk to him. I will be done after handing out everyone their commissions."

A special commission!! Wow, today me and Sammy are definitely going to eat something delicious. A special commission means high price/payment for the work. The work will be of huge risk, but if me and Sammy won the heart of our client, we could also get bonus on top of that huge payment. I am glad that we are trusted enough to handle a special commission now. I went to Mr. Khan to check on what commission I have to do. I saw Mr. Khan with a old couple and a pair of siblings which are almost at a teenage. There was a huge tension between the family that could sense. What is this all about?

"Vikram! Your finally here. I think Abdul already fill you in about commission, or he didn't?"

The whole family looked at me which pleasing look, they were in a need of help, I could tell that. Well, I decided to ignore them for a moment and give attention to Mr. Khan first.

"Not entirely, he just told me that I have a special commission offer today that you will tell me about."

"Well, first of all Let me introduce you to Mr. Desai and his family. The family who actually gave us this commission."
