"I..." She utters lowly, looking down not making any eye contact with me, all guilty and apologetic, frowning her face sorrowfully.

"I'm really sorry..."

"I didn't know he had a girlfriend, he didn't tell me that. If I had known I would have never..." Her voice sounds rough and words come out quickly.

"I... Sincerely am sorry." She droops her shoulders and looks up to meet me in the eyes, adjusting her glasses lightly with a push, awaiting for my reaction.

"Relax..." I say, calmly.

"W- what? She looks at me, surprised. "You're not mad?"

"It's fine, I'm too tired to think about that jerk at this point." I roll my eyes.

"Let's overlook it, shall we?" I shrug.

"Oh..." She's still shocked.

"Oh, um- yes! Totally!" She beams enthusiastically.

"There you go-" Before I can say anything more, a loud man's voice raises on my right making me bat my eyes over.

"Miss Lancaster, welcome." A chubby old man with a grey beard hugging the outline of his face greets me from a few feet away. I assume he is the manager as he knows my last name.

"I see you have already made friends with Miss Young." He smiles, showing his crooked teeth, looking at her and then back at me.

"Come, I will tell you about your job." He gestures me to enter the room at the corner of the shop before walking inside, where I assume is the staff room.

Once the door is closed, he begins to brief me about my job and what I have to do.

"Alright you will work behind the counter, serving coffee for guests like Miss Young-"

"What?" I gasp.

"I- I'm sorry sir..." I instantly lower my voice down after realizing I have been rude and should show some self-restraint.

"I'm just overly excited." I fake a smile.

Okay, I know I said it's fine but... Well... It's still... Something... I mean, let's see who this girl really is I guess.

❁ ❁ ❁

It's Wednesday. Today is my first day starting my part-time job. I wonder if I will do well and stuff, I'm so nervous...

...

"Can I -- -- - Rosalie?" A phrase of something slips into my consciousness and I gradually land safely in the reality.

"Huh?" I turn to Catalina.

"You didn't listen again did you?" She shrugs.

"What?" I raise my brows and put a French fry into my mouth.

"I said that I'm bored, can I come with you to your work?" She speaks with food in her mouth.

"Erm... Why?"

"Can't I spend time with my best friend?" She pulls her brows together.

"I mean, I was a little confused but..."

"Sure!" I nod my head and smile.

Having a friend tag along would be fun!

❁ ❁ ❁

"So... Have you met any cute guy yet?" She asks as we casually stroll to the coffee shop.

"I don't know." I shrug.

"What you mean you don't know?"

"I was uh... Too shy to check out anything..."

"What about you?" I look at her.

"What about me?" She looks at me.

"You found any guy at your restaurant?" I bounce my shoulders, paying attention to how our legs' movement syncs up.

"Yes, but none is handsome to be honest. Most of the employees are females."

"I see..." I turn to the road.

"Oh man..." I sigh.

"I'm so nervous." I stare far ahead of me.

"Why?" She slightly turns her head to me.

"I don't know what will happen if we don't have a date at prom..."

"It will be super humiliating!" I cover my cheeks and gasp dramatically.

❁ ❁ ❁

Mission failed.

"That's it Cata. That's it." I eye her attentively, waiting for some sort of staggering ideas from her since I have basically given up on my part.

There is no, not a single male employee here.

"Hmm... Do you think we can ask that guy over there..." She narrows her eyes pensively at someone and I trace her gaze to them.

"Where?" I ask actively seeking for the target.

"There." She gestures by moving her head up and down a couple of times towards the direction she's trying to guide me to.

"Why don't you just point?" I frown at her.

"Girl, that would be considered as rude."

"Bruh."

I turn to her direction and my gaze lands upon a customer who is reading his newspaper.

"Girl, we need someone who is extraordinarily good-looking!" I berate her lowly, not wanting anyone to hear our silly plan.

"We are out of choices-"

"What's wrong?" I stare at her amazed face.

"There, that woman again. He's with her again." She mutters, rolling her eyes.

"Who are you talking about?" I make a mystified face.

"I'm talking about my boss, he's hanging out with that woman again."

"Where?" I turn to the direction she's looking at, which is outside of the window, behind me. We are chilling at one of the vacant booth seatings as I'm currently taking a break from work and we are sitting opposite each other.

"Hmm... Where are you looking at?" I keep scrutinizing the crowd outside with my back turned facing her.

"They are not out there." She pats my back and I turn around to sit properly on my seat.

I look at her confused with a brow lifted.

"They have entered this shop." She ducks herself down so as not to be seen, looking behind me.

I quietly inch to the edge of my seat to peek behind me.

Um... There are lots of customers sitting, standing here and there. I don't even know what to look for.

"There, the woman in the black coat with fur on its neckband." She gives me some details as she sees me struggling.

Man I'm really bad at finding things... And people.

My eyes finally catch that woman, got it, she's sitting at one of the furthest booths, almost at the corner.

Now, where is Catalina's boss... I wonder as my gaze shifts like a machine scanning the congested picture of people.

"He's at the counter, ordering." She backs me up from behind and my gaze immediately finds its way to the counter.

...
