John Marston never met his parents. He was raised in an Orphanage until he was 12 years old. That was when he ran away and tried to live from pickpocketing and stealing. Unfortunately he ended up being caught stealing in Illinois by some folks who planned on hanging him. Now, this could have easily been the end of little John Marston, if he hadn't been saved by Dutch van der Linde and Hosea Matthews. Dutch van der Linde was a wanted outlaw with a dream to reform society the way he thought was right and Hosea Matthews was his loyal friend and partner in crime. Along side them, there was another man with the name of Arthur Morgan. He was maybe nine or ten years older than little John, but they both grew close and acted like brothers to one another. At last there was an elderly woman names Susan Grimshaw. She helped with the cooking and keept the boys in their place, like a strict aunt. They all treated John with respect and kindness, teached him to read and write, how to ride a horse and how to shoot a gun and they helped him out of difficult situations. For a boy that never had a real family, it was more than John could've ever had wished for. He was happy to finally have found a place where he belonged, with people who loved him and whom he loved back wholeheartedly.

And so, John Marston grew into a young man, still stealing and now also killing to survive, but now with a family by his side. And with the money they got from some successful bank and train robberies, they had made a quite enjoyable life for themselves. And that was really everything John needed. A home and a family on which he could depend, if he got himself into any trouble. There was nothing else his life was lacking. Or was there...?
