𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝟏

y/n's POV

   The winding road stretched ahead, cutting through the rugged Spanish landscape. Leon was glancing out of the car window in somewhat of a day- dream like state. The sun dipped low, casting long shadows in the car.

''Hey, you alright there?'' I asked, my gaze fixed on Leon, seated to my left. We were on our first mission under President Graham's orders, to track down his daughter, Ashley Graham. Information that was gathered pointed to her being located somewhere in a remote area of Spain, and we were in the car ride to the location. 

''Yeah... Why?'' He glanced over at me, chuckling. 

''Oh, well... You've been quiet the whole car ride, nervous?'' I questioned, giving him a slight smile. ''Well, no not really...'' He responded. ''I guess I just really know what to expect from this mission.'' Leon shrugged.

''So.. Tell me, why did y'all come to this horrid place?'' One of the officers seated in the front turns around and asks. I glanced at Leon and raised my brows. 

''Well, let's just say we're looking for someone,'' Leon simply stated.

''That someone must be very important, eh?'' the officer chimed, facing the front. ''Let me tell you a little secret, Just between us. Many people have gone missing around here, and its been that way for a while now.''  he added.

''Thats scary,'' I replied, not really knowing how to respond to the new information we received. The car soon came to a stop and the officer stepped out. ''I think this is it,'' The officer driving said. The other officer steps out the car, ''Nature call's, eh? I'll be right back.'' 

I glanced around the surroundings through the window. The whole area looked creepy as hell, shadows danced among the foliage, and an eerie silence hung in the air—a silence that seemed to seep into my bones. ''This place gives me the chills,'' I shuddered, looking at Leon. 

''Yeah... Freaky,'' he responded

''He sure is taking his time yeah?'' The officer chuckled. ''Why don't you go check on him? I'll stay here and watch the car... Don't wanna get a parking ticket!'' He added, glancing at Leon.

''Okay...'' Leon sighed, stepping out of the vehicle. ''I'll join you,'' I mumbled, following behind him. We made our way to the direction of where the officer went and followed a path down into the wooded area. 

''What the hell is that smell?'' I frowned as we made our way deeper onto the path. A pungent smell that was roaming the area, and we were approaching it ''God...'' Leon stopped in his tracks. It was a corpse of a deer, completely mangled, with maggots and flies surrounding it. 

''Eugh! Let's get going,'' I gagged, backing up from the corpse. ''How far could he have gone?'' Leon huffed, trailing behind me. We continued following the path until we reached a house. 

''Hello anyone in here?'' I called out as we stepped in. I wandered around the place and cautiously examined the surroundings. The place was quite run down and dimly lit by a few candles and a fireplace. ''y/n! watch out!'' Leon alerted. I spun around and was met with a villager raising a axe above me.  I quickly dodged and drew out my gun, aiming at the threat. 

BANG! 

The villager collapsed to the ground. ''That was close, thanks.'' I mumbled, shoving my gun back into its holder. ''You know, you gotta pay more attention to your surroundings...'' Leon frowned. HIs gaze shifted to something on the ground- A police ID card. 

''It's the officer's...'' he trailed off, scanning the ID. ''Oh. Do you think he could still be around here?'' I asked. ''Maybe, but considering that guy just tried to attack you, chances are slim.'' He stated. ''Let's get moving.''

The village was eerily quiet as you and Leon explored further in. The wind howled and rustled through trees and leaves, breaking the otherwise heavy silence. Though tension still filled the air. The two of you managed to get a lead on where Ashley was after searching around the village for a while and you notified Hunnigan about the newfound information to see if she could find out more about Ashley's where abouts.
