Sukuna never thought the day would come when he found his missing half, the one to fill the empty void in him, the one who made him finally capable of love. And the source was standing right before him in all her glory.
It dawned on him that there was no going back from this. He had sunken completely into you; there was no escape. Maybe he was feeling a little unfamiliar with himself, perhaps this was all an illusion and his feelings could be wrong. Maybe, just maybe, the Mother Tree purified Sukuna throughout his time in Aokigahara. Just enough to allow you to soften his rigid heart.
"You look dashing, Sukuna," You shyly break the silence, looking down and tucking a loose strand behind your ear.
Sukuna closes his jaw that hung loosely in fascination, "And you . . . You look beautiful."
So much passion and sincerity was laced in that word, and Sukuna did not make any attempt to hide it. Your cheeks grow red as you begin to feel extremely small and out of place. This was new, you've never been so vulnerable like this before.
"I-I'm new to this, so bare with me, alright?" You nearly shout, trying to recollect your usual brave behavior.
Sukuna's lips pull into a warm smile, "If you say so, Mortal."
The Cook finally arrives, "Ah, you're finally here, my dear! Welcome! I've been preparing just for you since yesterday!"
You smile graciously at a familiar face to break the tension, "So I've heard."
"Come, sit with me," Sukuna extends a hand to you, looking away dismissively to seem casual.
Your heart speeds up when you take his hand, "Alright . . ."
He leads you away to the back of the restaurant, and you notice a secluded table in the dead center of the area. All the other tables and chairs were pushed against the walls. The table was decorated with a small pot of flowers, a few candles, and silverware resting on plates.
You also notice that this side of the restaurant was a lot dimmer in light compared to the entrance. The usual lanterns around the room that burned bright were gone. Instead, the light was focused only on the center of the table you and Sukuna would share.
Sukuna hesitates but quickly walks ahead to pull your seat out, gesturing you to sit down. You raise your brows, feeling impressed by his newly learned courtesy. After Sukuna pushes your seat in, he takes his seat on the other side.
The tension finally sinks in, and you try to hide from the awkward silence with the menu over your face. Do I say something? I don't know what to do! Just say something, (Y/N)!-
"Go ahead and eat whatever you like," Sukuna's deep voice cuts into the silence, "He's indebted to me so just for tonight we can eat all we want."
"I'm not feeling too hungry, so I won't ask for too much," You mutter. It's the truth; you were so overwhelmed by your nerves that you were practically nauseous.
Sukuna scoffs, "Are you that nervous? It's no different than any other time we've eaten together, only this time in a formal setting."
"In a romantic setting . . ." You mumble behind the menu.
Sukuna huskily laughs, "Ah, is that what's bothering you? That we're not eating as friends, but as lovers?"
You slam the menu onto the table, "We are not lovers!"
Sukuna places his down and rests his chin on the palm of his hand, inspecting your flustered state. Your cheeks were so red and your eyes were wide in denial, how cute. He watched you so intensely with amusement swirling in his eyes that you had to look back down at the menu.
