Two-shot story

It had been three weeks since Maya lost her captaincy, got married and Andy almost ended up being transferred until Robert came and fought for her even though he fought for the captaincy himself.

McCallister agreed to let Andy stay at 19 but Bishop had to step down and he would figure out a permanent captain as soon as he could.

Andy and Robert hadn't talked in that time. Only talked when they needed to on calls.

'A' shift had just ended and Maya asked Andy if she wanted to go to her apartment.

Andy hesitated at her locker. "I- um. There's something I need to do."

Maya raised her eyebrow. "You finally going to have that fight with Sullivan?"

Andy blushed and nodded. "You know, you never know what you have until it's gone." Andy ran a hand through her hair. "Robert and I have gone through way too much for me to let it all fall apart."

"I agree." Maya shook her head. "Andy, I get why you got mad. Why you're probably still mad, but if I'm not mad, I think it's time you get over it."

Andy sighed. "Him offering himself for captain instead of saying that I could replace you just feels like I was being betrayed," Andy admitted. "When everyone expected me to become captain after Sullivan got promoted but I didn't because my dad told him not to promote me I felt betrayed. When my dad told Ripley that neither Jack nor I should become captain I felt betrayed. Being betrayed hurts, Maya." Maya nodded. "I want to be married to Robert. I want to be Robert's wife. I want him to be my husband but I know we need to have this fight before we can go back to being us. Be that couple we were during the pandemic and even before that." Andy looked at Maya. "He was there for me when my dad died. He was there for me by letting me cry. Letting me sleep when I was unable to do anything else. Maya, he's been the one constant in my life since we became friends after the aid car crash."

"I know." Maya nodded. "So what are you going to do?" Andy grinned. "You have a plan, don't you?"

"As you know, neither of us wears a ring." Andy started but Maya interrupted.

Maya's jaw dropped. "No way. You're getting him a ring?"

"I have one," Andy told her, smiling. "I just, I don't know. After your wedding was when I planned to ask him to wear it but then two days before we had that drama with that call and McCallister. I just... I was just overwhelmed and frustrated and just so pissed off." Andy ran a hand through her hair. "Anyways, though, I'll leave now and tell you all the details later," Andy told her, gave her a quick, unexpected hug, and then walked out of the locker room and the station.

Andy got in her car and sighed deeply. Robert was at home today, for reasons she didn't know because they hadn't been talking but she drove as quickly as she could, respecting the law of course, to get to where she was hoping she could still call home.

10 minutes later she was there. She got out of her car, ran to the door and knocked. She felt weird about walking in when they hadn't talked in so long. It only took a few seconds for the door to open. She saw Robert's mouth open but she raised a hand.

"I know you have a lot to say. I know I have a lot to say. And I think it's about time we talk." Robert nodded. "Can I come in?" Robert didn't say anything but opened the door for Andy. "Can I just get changed and then I'll come back down?" Andy watched Robert nod and she rushed past him and up the stairs. She sighed when she got into the bedroom. She had missed sleeping with Robert and missed their room. She sighed again, got changed and then walked to her bedside table and grabbed the box with the ring. She opened it and stared at it and she smiled.

Andy must've been in the room for too long because she heard a knock on the door and turned around. The box in her hand was still open. Andy was surprised. She froze. She looked at Robert and then back down at the box. She was going to close it but decided against it.

"I know I've been ignoring you. I know I've been terrible to you lately." Andy looked at Robert. "I'm sorry for that, Robert." Andy saw him about to speak but raised her hand again. She saw him looking at the box in her hand. "Yeah. I planned to give you this weeks ago but the drama happened." Robert looked down but Andy stepped closer to him and gently raised his face to look him in the eye. "Robert, I know after so long we should just be talking about what happened, but I really want to tell you what I was going to say to you when I was going to give this to you."

"Okay," Robert whispered, not knowing what else to say.

"I just need to ask you a question first." Robert nodded, encouraging her to continue without saying anything. "Is this too forward?"

"No," Robert said simply, walking over to his side of the bed, opening his bedside table's drawer and pulling out a box. "I wanted to give this to you the day we got married but I wasn't sure how you would feel about wearing a ring when no one knew we were married so I just held onto it," Robert told Andy, opening the box that held a beautiful wedding band with several small diamonds along the top of the band.

Andy covered her mouth, "Oh, my God. it's gorgeous, Robert."

Robert smiled. "So, will you do me the honour of wearing it?" Robert watched Andy nod and he slid the ring onto her finger. "Andy, I know you feel betrayed by my actions and I hope you know how sorry I am." Robert started and leaned down to kiss Andy's forehead. Andy closed her eyes, having missed Robert's lips. "Andy, I had a meeting with McCallister today," Robert told Andy and Andy raised an eyebrow. "Look, I know it won't make up for my actions a few weeks ago but I managed to convince him to give Bishop a second chance. Told him that plenty of male captains screw up and don't even get written up, let alone relieved of their duties. When I threatened to go public with what happened he caved." Robert told her with a smile on his face. "I was going to go and tell her today but was kind of exhausted and caught up on some much needed sleep." Robert told her and Andy looked down at the ring in her hand. "Sorry, I know you wanted to talk but I took over."

"You don't need to apoligize, Robert," Andy told him and moved to give him a kiss on the lips quickly "I love you, Robert. I know that me avoiding you the last few weeks may have made you doubt that, but I will always love you. I know I shouldn't have just run away. I know I should have just talked to you the night we got sent that email and I can't tell you enough how sorry I am for my childish actions." Andy lifted the ring out of the box and slid it onto Roberts ring finger. "Robert, you've been there for me in my worst moments and stuck by me, even when I told you that you didn't need to stay with me. I love you so much and I hope you can forgive me for the way I've treated you." Andy said, tears in her eyes.

"I love you too, Andy." Robert said, pulling Andy into a kiss. Andy melted into it and it quickly turned heated until Andy stopped him.

"Hold on." Andy said, pulling away form Robert. "Do you mind if we go and tell Maya now? She kind of had a crappy day."

Robert frowned. "What happened?"

"We had a call with an abusive boyfriend and he was hitting his wife and both of us nearly got hit ourselves waiting for the cops and that was the last call we had. That's partly why I wanted to come to see you right after shift." Andy explained. "She asked me to come over to her place but obviously I said no."

"Want to go and check on her and tell her then?"

Andy smiled. "I would. I think it could help cheer her up."

"We'll finish talking when we get back?" Andy asked, knowing the rings kind of derailed them talking about Andy walking out in full.

"We will." Robert smiled and pulled Andy into another kiss before walking out the door and to Andy's car.
