"Hey, you ready to go?" Rover asked as he entered the lab. "So, that was Mortefi?" you asked, to which he nodded in response. "He seems like a reasonable guy." you remarked, rising from the examination table.
"Indeed he is." Rover agreed.
Mortefi and Baizhi briefed Rover on your situation and even shared their theory with him. This information was only disclosed to the Magistrate and Rover, as your case was unique and they couldn't risk compromising it.
"By the way, the Magistrate wanted to see you."
"Ma----who?" You furrowed your brows in confusion as you didn't understand what he had just said.
"The Magistrate." he said again. "She rules over the city." Rover elaborated, leading you out of the Huaxu Academy.
"So, she's like the Mayor of Jinzhou?" you joked, trying to lighten the air.
Rover gave a small chuckle. "In a sense, yes. She's a respected figure in the city."
"Over here!" Chixia exclaimed, waving to you and Rover. Yangyang and her were waiting for both of you right at the exit. "So, we heard from Baizhi that the Magistrate wanted to see her!" Chixia said with an excited look on her face.
"Yes, the Magistrate wanted to meet her right away." Rover replied.
"Okay then! Yangyang and I will head over to Ms. Panhua's restaurant to order something for dinner. We'll wait for you guys there." Chixia beamed as she tugged Yangyang along with her.
"Is she always that cheerful?" You asked, wondering where she's getting all that energy from.
"She has her moments when she's serious, but for the most part, she keeps things lighthearted." He said, his eyes following their departure for a brief moment.
As the two of you walked toward the Magistrate's office, Rover began to share his story. "And about the Magistrate, she takes care of the city and its citizens. She took me in when I first arrived in Jinzhou without any memories of where I came from." Rover confided in you, looking straight ahead as he explained. "That was months ago, and I still can't remember who I was before."
You can see the yearning in Rover's eyes, as if there is a huge part of him that is missing.
"Hey, let's not give up, okay? We'll do this together, one step at a time." you cheered him up, empathizing with what he's going through. It's overwhelming to live in a place where you know nothing about. The anxiety and uncertainties were definitely feelings that Rover experienced as well.
"Thank You, Y/N" Rover nodded gratefully, a small smile forming on his lips.
As you reached the Magistrate's chambers, A voice called from within, inviting you to enter. You took a deep breath as the guards opened the door for you and Rover.
"Don't worry. She's a good person." He assured you.
The Magistrate's office was grand, yet comfortable, filled with a sense of warmth. The Magistrate sat behind her desk, her features striking as she stood up and welcomed you both with open arms.
