"Are you okay after yesterday?" Alira asked as soon as Daniel reached her in the morning. He looked rested, even smiling, and definitely seemed ready to take care of the animals all day. After escorting the school group to the exit, Alira went to Webb, the zoo director, and told him she would keep Daniel with her and try to find an animal that would suit him.
Webb was delighted. He had feared that no one at the zoo would accept Daniel and that everyone would try to avoid working with him and pass him off to someone else. He was pleased that Alira had volunteered to be his guide and helper in finding his purpose at the zoo. Everyone at the zoo was surprised to see the pair walking around that morning, but they were even more surprised when they heard laughter. Daniel was laughing, and so was Alira.
"They were just stupid kids," Daniel waved it off, "I don't take their words to heart. They have no idea what they're talking about; all they see is that I have money and think I'll just spend it like crazy."
Thanks to Formula One, Daniel had learned not to pay attention to what people said about him. Many times, people had written him off as someone whose best years were behind him and who would never return to the level he was at when he drove for Red Bull. They said leaving Red Bull was the worst decision he ever made because it ruined his entire career. Maybe they were right, and Daniel knew it well, but if he let those words get to him, he would never have returned to the track because his head would be full of their nonsense, he would have driven even worse, and all the teams would have dropped him. He didn't take it to heart negatively; he used it as motivation to keep improving and prove them wrong, even though it ultimately didn't work out because of the accident with Hamilton.
"And what about the model? Never thought about finding a pretty model who would stand by your side and support you in everything?" Alira asked playfully.
"You mean one who would support me as long as I had money? As soon as I ran out, she'd disappear," Daniel chuckled at his own response. Models never interested him. He knew a few drivers who were constantly looking at models and choosing girlfriends among them, but he never wanted that. He never met a model who wasn't a shallow person only interested in money, fame, and makeup. He preferred to date normal girls—his last relationship was with an actress, the only somewhat famous person he dated, but their relationship didn't last long.
"That's probably true," Alira nodded. She had her own opinion about models, one she preferred not to voice aloud for fear of offending someone. She had never met or talked to a model, so her opinion was solely based on social media and what people said about them online. This was why she didn't voice it aloud. In this case, it was judging a book by its cover, and she didn't want to admit that by saying it out loud. She preferred to keep her opinion to herself and change it if she ever met a model.
