Elena was laid out on Percy's lap. The top of a picnic table wasn't ideal, especially since Percy was still healing from her own injuries.
However, Elena took precedent, her bleeding hand and shoulder a cause for concern. The Lockwood estate was noisy with party goers, the Masquerade Ball in full swing.
Percy's hands were glowing red, the blonde teen attempting to siphon away the linking spell connecting Elena and Katherine. The plan had been to kill Katherine tonight. The clever bitch had her own plans though, much to everybody's annoyance.
Percy could feel the warmth of blood leaving her nose, but she pushed on, trying to siphon until it was Elena's doppelganger magic she was feeding on. The blonde panted, exhaustion becoming more and more present.
"Oh god! I can't -" Percy gasped, hands falling as she let her forehead rest against Elena's. Sweat sheened over her pale skin, and her chest heaved. "'M Sorry, Lena."
"It's Alright Percy." Elena soothed, sitting up and pulling the girl into her arms. The pain wasn't too bad anymore, and Elena appreciated the lengths Percy went to ensure her safety. She rubbed Percy's back, trying to calm the siphon down.
Elena would admit, she didn't really like Percy at first. The blonde was seemingly fearless and very opinionated. However, the first time Elena saw an interaction with Percy and Amanda, she saw the real Persephone. In reality, Percy was just a scared little girl who wanted her dad to come rescue her. Elena had seen the picture of the blonde man that Percy kept in her locket, and was determined to help the girl find him.
Elena didn't really do anything to help, despite all her promises. Percy had discovered that Elena Gilbert made empty promises to soothe people, but never followed through. Everything was about the brunette holding her, everything was to save her life.
Percy still stayed though, because she didn't have anywhere else to go. She only had a picture and a name for her father, and every locator spell she attempted failed.
The night was over, and Percy found herself walking with Elena to her red Mini Cooper. Percy could drive, but she didn't have a license to do it legally. One of the many ways her mother made sure Percy was trapped with her.
The two teens made it to the car, and Percy leaned against it for a moment. She was exhausted, having never used her abilities to that extent before. The siphon wiped her still bleeding nose, that showed no signs of stopping.
A familiar burning sensation started on her forearm. She hissed, looking down to find her birthmark, which was in the shape of a familiar device she couldn't name, red and irritated.
That happened sometimes. Since she was six, and first took notice of the mark, it would grow angry and itchy. She didn't know what it meant and was too scared to ask her mother. She asked her brother instead, and he just beamed at her before explaining.
"You're one half of a soul, baby sister. That mark is a representation of something important to your other half." Matthew explained, gripping his little sister's forearm gently. His thumb traced the red and puffy mark, a pit settling in his stomach as he stared at the Ascendant marking.
"Does my other half have one too, BB?" Percy asked excitedly, her own bright blue eyes staring at her mark. She was grinning without reservation, bouncing on her toes.
"They do, Perce."
The fond memory made Percy smile, hand finding the locket around her neck. She wondered what her soulmate's mark was.
Getting her head smashed into the side of Elena's car wasn't how Percy wanted her night to end. The teen was planning on hiding out in Jeremy's room, tucked safely in his arms.
