day SiXTy SeVen, 31st OCT. we search fOr sophia at firsT lighT like Rick promised, Simone wrote out last minute before leaving the RV, joining beside Carl.
__________
Rick rolled out the arsenal Carl found yesterday, "Everybody takes a weapon," he says. Simone's ears prick up, everybody? "These aren't the kind of weapons we need. What about the guns?" Andrea put her hand on her hip. "We've been over that. Daryl, Rick and I are carrying," Simone wasn't sure who selecting them as leader but Shane's really going into the role, "We can't have people popping off rounds every time a tree rustles."
"It's not the trees I'm worried about." "Say someone fires at the wrong moment, a herd happens to be passing by. See, then it's game over for all of us, so you need to get over it," Shane swung his backpack over his shoulder and that was the end of that conversation, not leaving room for argument.
"The idea is to take the creek up about five miles, turn around and come back down the other side. Chances are she'll be by the creek. It's her only landmark," Daryl says. Simone glancing up to see her brother as he eyed the new weapon he grabbed with a little grin on his face.
"Can I take one?" The arsenal still on the table, weapon choice slipping away every second. "Oh, uh, yeah," Glenn questioned himself, he thinks having protection is good to have. Rick let Carl take one, anyway. At the moment Rick became the man Glenn looked up to for any parental stuff. He seemed to know what to do when Glenn had no idea.
Simone looks at Carl's knife from the corner of her eye and tried to find the same one. She found one, happily. The handle was a different pattern and a shade darker but it was the same nonetheless.
With her backpack on her back, the unessential items removed for this hike like clothes and personal things, her and Glenn's water bottles left in. Last minute dropping her hair brush back in there too, she's still just a girl. Her pretty, scenic calendar was left on the table in the RV along with her notebook. While they were considered essential too, they also weren't something she planned to use while she was gone.
"Keep an eye on Carl while we're gone," Rick patted his hand on his boy's shoulder. "I'm going with you," Carl said like it was an obvious statement no one else was aware of, "You need people, right? To cover as much ground as possible," his gaze switched to Lori, his mom, who was also going on the hike.
Rick sighed, looking to his wife for her approval, "Your call. I can't always be the bad guy." "Well, he has all of you to look after him, I'd say he's in good hands," Dale spoke in the kid's defence. Simone's back resting on the RV door Dale's arm also leaned on. She watched Carl's parents anxiously, she didn't want to go if Carl can't, she really did want to go, though.
