Date with Max

It was 5pm now and I was sat down on my bed. I was changed in my usual attire and I was just bracing myself for spending time with Max. While I was happy to see her again, a part of me wanted to turn my back on her. She left Chloe and me so abruptly after dad died and she didn't even call back to check up on us. As much as I hated to say it, it was like she just wanted to forget about us.

I take a deep breath before standing and leaving the boys' dorms. I make my way to the front of the Academy and I see Max immediately. She smiles and waves me over. It felt odd, seeing Max so cheerful to see me. We barely spent time together when we were younger, we were basically strangers.

Y/n: Hey Max.

Max: Hi Y/n. How are you?

Y/n: I'm okay. Any ideas on where you wanna go?

Max: No. I'm fine with wherever.

I nod and begin to lead the way, heading towards the diner where Joyce works.

Max: So what are you studying?

Y/n: Music. What about you?

Max: Photography.

Y/n: You always did have a good eye. You met your teacher yet?

Max: Yeah. Mark Jefferson. The lectures aren't too bad.

Y/n: Yeah, well it's your first day. Give it... I don't know, a month? Yeah, a month before you start daydreaming during class.

Max: You sound really sure of that.

Y/n: Yep. So how was Seattle?

Max: It was great. But, I think I preferred it here. It just seems... more welcoming.

Y/n: Well, this is your home. It's bound to feel like that.

Max: I know what you mean. How's Joyce?

Y/n: She's... living. Still works at the diner.

Max: Can we go visit her?

Y/n: Where do you think I'm taking you? And speaking of the diner...

We arrived at the diner. The car park was near empty since this place gets the most business in the morning. Max takes a good look around.

Max: Wow... This place really hasn't aged a day. It all looks exactly as I remember it.

Y/n: Yeah. That's Arcadia Bay for you. Things never change. Cmon, I'll pay for the food.

I enter the diner and take a seat at an empty table and Max sits opposite me. I hand her a menu and open one up for myself.

Max: Even the menu's the same.

Y/n: Like I said, things never change in Arcadia Bay. Any ideas what you want?

Max: I think I'll have the pancakes. I know it's late in the day, but I love the pancakes here.

Y/n: Fair. I usually have the waffles.

She smiles lightly and continues to look through the menu, looking for drinks. I grab her menu and flip it around so she can see the drinks.

Max: Oh, right. I forgot the drinks were on the back.

Y/n: It's fine. It's been a long while so it's to be expected. I take it you didn't eat out much?

Max: No. Usually just ordered food and stayed in my room.

I nod and notice mom coming over. She smiles at us.

Joyce: What can I get for you?

Max: Hi Mrs Price.
