The blade slid between my ribs with practiced ease. As my vision blurred, I caught a glimpse of my assassin's triumphant smirk. How ironic that I, Princess Elenora, known throughout the kingdom for my cruelty, would die by another's hand.

Darkness enveloped me, and then...

I awoke with a gasp, my heart pounding. Sunlight streamed through familiar silk curtains. I was in my bedchamber, the same one I'd had since childhood. Trembling hands touched my side, finding smooth skin where moments ago there had been a fatal wound.

"Your Highness?" A timid voice called from beyond the door. "Are you awake?"

I froze. That voice – it belonged to Mira, my lady's maid. But Mira had left my service years ago, after I'd... I swallowed hard, memories of my past cruelties flooding back.

"Enter," I managed, my voice steadier than I felt.

The door opened, revealing a young Mira, her face unlined by the years of hardship I remembered inflicting upon her. She curtsied, eyes downcast. "Good morning, Your Highness. Shall I help you dress for the day?"

My mind raced. This wasn't possible. Unless...

"Mira," I said, fighting to keep my voice even, "what is today's date?"

She blinked, confusion evident on her face. "It's the 15th of Sunmoon, Your Highness. Your eighteenth birthday."

I barely suppressed a gasp. My eighteenth birthday – the day everything had begun to unravel. The day I'd set in motion the events that would lead to my downfall and death.

But here I was, alive again. Given a second chance.

As Mira helped me dress, my mind whirled with possibilities.

I knew what was coming – the ball tonight, where I'd first encounter the four men who would shape my destiny. Prince Damien, with his charming smile and hidden ambitions. Duke Alistair, stoic and loyal to a fault. Lord Cassius, whose clever wit masked a ruthless streak. And Captain Ryland, whose honor had been both his strength and his weakness.

In my past life, I'd manipulated and hurt them all, seeing them as nothing more than pawns in my game of power. This time... this time would be different.

"Y-Your Highness?" Mira's voice pulled me from my thoughts. "Is everything a-alright?"

I turned to her, really seeing her for the first time. The fear in her eyes, the slight tremble in her hands – all because of me. The old Elenora would have reveled in that fear. But I wasn't that person anymore.

"Yes, Mira," I said softly. "Everything is fine. Better than fine, actually." I managed a small smile. "I think today is going to be the start of something new."

Her eyes widened in surprise at my uncharacteristic kindness. "Y-Your...Highness..."

As I left my chambers, head held high, I felt a surge of determination. I had been given a rare gift – the chance to rewrite my story. This time, I wouldn't be the villain.
