It had been a few weeks since Taylor and Travis' last encounter. Football season was over and spring was fast approaching. The snow was all but gone from the ground now, Taylor thought as she looked outside her window from the second story window. The nights were still cold, but the freezing temperatures were long gone. It was actually nice to have the window cracked to let the fresh night air in.
She worked on her latest assignment, the sound of the tapping of her mechanical keyboard forming a strange rhythm as the words flowed from her mind to her finger tips and onto the pages. She hears the loud engine, sounding far off in the distance, her fingers pause. Does she dare to look out the window? See if he is there, waiting for her. She looked at her phone, no unread texts. It couldn't be him, she thought. He always texts her first. But her curiosity, her hope cannot be denied, she pulls the sheer curtain to the side hoping to see the Chevelle rolling down the car lined street. She looks into the night for where the sound came from.... sees a jacked-up Ford pickup truck. Taylor sighs in disappointment. Was it really disappointment, she thought. She had told herself she had no hold on him. She was a fling, a side hoe. It was better for her, and him, that they just let this die on the vine.
So lost in her thoughts, Taylor didn't hear Blake walk into her room, tapping on the door as she opened it. Blake had the best smile, the best hair, the best boyfriend – she was the best.
"Hello? Heelllooo?? Earth to Taylor?" Blake spoke as she waved her hand in Taylor's face to get her attention. Startled, Taylor looked suddenly at Blake, who laughed at the shocked look on Taylor's face.
"Where were you off to?" Blake leaned on the desk with a smirk, "Better yet, who were you thinking about?" Blake was the only one who Taylor told about Travis. She knew she could trust Blake, but Blake too thought it was best to stop because she didn't want Taylor to get hurt. Taylor ducked her head down and looked away.
"Yep, uh-huh...you were thinking about him. Weren't you?" Blake whispered.
"No...just thinking about spring break coming up. Going home for some well-deserved rest." Taylor lied, Blake knew but didn't press.
"I still can't believe you are not going to Cabo with us for spring break." Blake lamented "It's going to so lit! I blew the remainder of my student loan money on that trip and I'm gonna make it count! Woo Hoo!" Taylor laughed and Blake danced around her room with her arms above her head.
"C'mon...take a break from school. Ryan brought your favorite sauvignon blanc over..." Blake teased.
"You had me a sauvignon blanc. Let's go!" Taylor shouts and rushes from her desk chair down the stairs, Blake chasing and laughing at Taylor. We had the best friendship...unpretentious, genuine.

Three bottles of sauvignon blanc later, Blake decides we need some air.
"Let's walk over to Malroney's Pub!" Taylor gives Blake a weird side look, as if she is crazy. That place was where most of the "cool" university kids hung out. It was Friday night, so the place would be packed. And it was six walking blocks away...sometimes you could hear the shenanigans happening when it got really crazy.
"I don't think I can walk that far." Taylor announced that she had three glasses in, and she was feeling good, but she still didn't want to go out. Taylor laid her head on the cool marble of the kitchen island.
"Yes you can. The fresh air will be great. And the walk with sober us up a bit." Blake states as she hugs Taylor from behind. Ryan in turn hugs Blake and Taylor from behind in solidarity.
"C'mon...let's have some fun tonight." Blake pouting into Taylor's ear. "Okay...fine. Let's get this over with." Taylor huffs
"Yeah!!!" Blake whoops up and runs for our coats.
