- Dad, I'm home! - I yelled while making my way to the kitchen - Dad?
Usually our routine is: I go to school, he works from home until I get back from school then we have lunch together and he goes to work. But there are some exceptions.I looked around and he wasn't there, clearly, but I saw a note on the counter.
"Tina, dad needed to do some extra hours at work. See you around 8p.m, love you. - Dad"
I think is funny how after 13 years my dad still talks to me in third person. I'm not complaining though, it makes me feel like a little kid again and that made me feel much better, especially after all the responsibility I had to take after my tenth birthday. But that's a story for another time, I still needed to eat the left overs from yesterday's dinner and meet with my neighbours.
I may not be too close with people around school but there was always one person I could count on if I needed anything. And that was Alexander Parker, my first friend.
We met on Alexander's first birthday and I don't remember anything but my mother said I kept beating up Alex when we were playing at the ball pit, she also told me that I got sick after the party and puked on the way home. That's when my parents discovered my sausage allergy.
Anyways, I was supposed to go to his house at 14p.m for homework, so I had a lot of time to get ready.
Alex studies on a different school but we're still on the same grade so we do our homework together from time to time. How today was both of our's first days, we didn't have much to do.I scrolled through my phone for a bit and read some pages of the book I got, Pride and Prejudice, then finally decided to leave my house.
No need to say the walk wasn't long since he lives next door. I texted the group chat saying I was there so someone could let me in. I didn't ring the bell because, firstly, is broken, and secondly, their mom works from home and she could be in a meeting.
- Hey, Tina! Come in. - Cassie says, while I step forward.
Oh, I forgot to mention, Alex has an older sister. Her name is Cassidy and she is on her last year of high school. When I said "their mom" and "the group chat" I was talking about her and Alex.
- Hi, Cassie! - I replied to her - I missed you so much! - I said hugging her.
- I missed you too! - She answered hugging me back.
- TINAAA! - Alex came running down the stairs coming with such force at me that I thought we both were about to fall down.
- ALEEEX! - I say with the same intonation.- Wow, no "I missed you so much!" - he said mocking me - I see how it is. You know you shouldn't have favorites, right?
- I wouldn't have favorites if you came to open the door, poop head. - I said walking upstairs to his room with him following behind.
- Sorry, I was just finishing my business on the bathroom, dwarf. - he replied rolling his eyes.*Sighs proudly* Poop head and dwarf, the nicknames we gave eachother when we were 7, actually, he was 7 I was 8. Just making clear that I'm older. We created them on a vacation to San diego when he lost a race to me.
FLASHBACK
- 3, 2, 1, GO! - Alex screamed.
We ran and our finish line was a red flag (so my type😜) a few meters from us.
- I won! - I said passing the red flag.
- No way, I won! - Alex replied.
- And how is that? - I asked.
- Your shorter, you got shorter legs. Which means I can run faster! - he answered.
- That's dumb, you poop head!
- You're dumb, you dwarf!
- I crossed the finish line first, so I won. It's not dumb, it's common sense.
- That's the stupidest thing I have ever heard.
- Whatever, let's just get some ice cream and say we both won. - I shrugged off.
- Sure. - He agreed putting his arm over my shoulders. And we walked back to our parents asking for money to buy ice cream.
END OF FLASHBACK
- Ew, I didn't need to know that. - I say getting back from daydreaming - Ok, but jokes aside, I missed you, Alex.- I missed you too, Tina. But not that much it was a month separated not a year, is not that deep.
- For real, it was more like a break from you. - I replied and he throwed a pillow at me - Anyways, did you get homework today?
- Yeah, did you?
- Nop, you're a loser.
- This loser is you're only friend.
- Blah, blah, blah.
- Did you make any new friends today?
- More like new enemies. I have been dying to tell you about this boy.
- 🎶Uhhh, looks like someone is in love.🎶- Alex said making kissing faces.
- Ew, no. I promise you, that if I ever even think of holding hands with that dork, there are two options to explain that unlikely action: I'm drunk or I'm going insane so you should call 911. - I said counting the reasons with my fingers - For real, I'd rather jump off of a cliff than be "in love" with him.
- Come on, he can't be that bad.
- I wish you studied at my school to see with your own eyes.
- Whatever, Tina. I don't even know what my homework is, but you're a nerd, so you're helping me.
- What happened to me telling you about my first day and the new boy?
- I think your big old brain can handle you talking and helping me at the same time. - He said pointing to my head - Go on, start spealling the tea, we don't have all day.
So I started telling him about my first day of school and, eventually, about Hoffman. How he would hang himself on the goal bars and whisper stuff to his friends on the middle of the class, OH, did I said that he is also a teacher's pet? Okay, I'm not the best person to point that out but bro has been nothing but useless to the class and when he would speak his thoughts out loud all the words were nonsense, either would he make some unhinged joke about the subject we were about to study or he would ask teachers stuff like "who is your favorite student", "Who would you want your daughter to date? Not to offend anyone but I would say I'm pretty charming", "Blah, blah, blah". I don't know he just annoys me.
After I poured everything that happened on my first day it was Alex's turn. Nothing much really happened except that there were rumours that the math teacher who was married to the eith grade's P.E teacher cheated on her with the new history teacher. Besides that all of his friends were still in the same class as him, no enemies, no lovers, just school. Give them a week and I bet that there will have better drama than the tv shows.
