Nina woke up in the bed inside of the camper van, her head pounding with confusion. She had no recollection of how she ended up there. Yawning and stretching, she reached for her boots and slipped them on. As she stepped outside, she was immediately struck by the sight of utter chaos. People were running around in a panic, tears streaming down their faces, and desperate shouts filled the air as they surrounded Joe.
"They're trapped?!" Emma's voice was high-pitched and frantic
Joe, trying to maintain calm, replied. "Look, just calm down. Nobody is going after them, it's too dangerous."
Ryan's father snarled with fury, "I will march into that goddamn city if I must. My SON is in that infested city. I will not let him be ripped apart and eaten alive."
Joe snapped back, "I said nobody is going. End of discussion."
"What about Owen?" Someone else yelled from the crowd.
"Kristen is there! She is all the family I have left." Kristen shouted in despair.
"I understand that I really do, but I don't car- "
"You don't care?" Emma scoffed, not letting him finish. "EVERYONE has someone out there and you don't care. You fucking asshole." She spat before slapping him across the face.
Nina rushed towards Emma, grabbing her arms and pulling her away from Joe as she raised her hand to strike again. They reached the lake, and Nina wrapped her arms around the trembling blonde, holding her tightly as she sobbed uncontrollably.
"She's not coming back, she's dead. I just know it. I knew this would happen." Emma choked out between sobs.
"She will, they'll find a way." Nina whispered, trying to sound reassuring, though fear gnawed at her insides. The two girls held each other tightly, both trying to find strength in the other.
"What am I going to do?" Emma cried harder, her grip tightening on Nina's plain black T-shirt.
"I got you. No matter what happens. I got you. Okay?" Nina soothed. "Everything will be okay." She paused, pulling away slightly. "Do you hear that?"
Emma listened carefully and nodded. In the distance, the faint sound of police sirens blared, gradually growing louder and closer.
"What the....?" Nina grabbed Emma's hand, and they ran back to camp. As they neared, the sirens became deafening. They burst into the camp to see a police car blaring loudly, lights flashing as everyone shouted over the noise. A SWAT van soon followed. Owen stood next to the police car, looking utterly lost.
"Just fucking do this, Joe said, annoyed, reaching into the car and finally shutting the sirens off.
"Where's Kristen?" Emma shouted, leaving Nina's side.
"Where's Alejandro?" Nina whispered to herself, fear creeping into her voice.
"Emma?!" Kristen's voice rang out from the back of the SWAT van.
"Kristen!" Emma shouted back, running towards her sister. The two embraced tightly, tears streaming down their faces.
Nina watched the joyful reunions around her, but anxiety twisted her stomach as she scanned for Alejandro. Joe was being led away by Owen, and they spoke in hushed tones. Joe's face went pale as he glanced over at Nina, who shook her head, realising the gravity of the situation.
Suddenly, a child's scream pierced the air.
"LIAM!" Lynette screamed, running towards the trees, followed Joe, Nina and Edith.
