Fate must've been playing some sick joke on all of us, she thought.

Haven't I given enough?

Onyx laid there-the debris crumpling on top of her in twinkling flames, as if to mock her for what had happened. The mansion fell apart, and all that was left was the ashes.

As she scanned her surroundings with blurry vision, she was left devastated. Her younger brother was nowhere to be seen, but her older brother and sister were nothing but bloody bodies under the crumbled building.

Her mother's body was probably long gone-burned to a crisp. And her father...

There he stood, in front of all the destruction. His blue-hazel eyes that used to be so identical to Onyx's own were staring into her soul with a crimson glow.

"You deserve what has come to you," He said, both his words and voice were apathetic.

When registering those words, the realization finally dawned on the raven-haired girl-Her father was a vain, heartless man. He had a pitch-black heart and ill intent.

He destroyed everything in his path.

Onyx was enraged by a sudden fury that she couldn't come to terms with-She couldn't fathom why she felt this way, because she was merely a lost soul. Her left, bloody fist clenched against the burned grass. Almost her entire body was trapped underneath the rubble, but she was too stubborn to let that vile man get away with what he had done. It was no wonder he went to jail.

"You... You jerk!" Her voice was laced with venom, which in itself was quite unlike her.

"You'll pay for this!!"

"Hah, no the hell I won't."

She could only watch with livid, wide eyes as her so-called father walked away like he didn't destroy a full clan just now.

There was so much she wanted to say, and yet, she was facing so many emotions that she was rendered speechless. All she had was the stuffed animal her mother gave her; a warn-down, stained, small stuffed bunny with a black and dark green color scheme.

She held the toy in her hand, and it finally hit her again like a slap to the face.

Her mother died in front of her. She watched her die.

Tears finally escaped her eyes in waves, still trying to come to terms with the situation-Almost her entire clan just got massacred by her father, and her beloved younger brother disappeared without a trace.

Well, she did tell him to run as far as he could, so that might be her doing.

That fact seemed to bring her a faint sense of relief. But it did nothing to soothe the grief and anguish she felt. She felt devastated, if not, more so-Her life had been destroyed and her world flipped into an entirely new view in not even a day.

To only make matters worse, her vision blurred and darkened-She couldn't do anything to escape the crumbled rocks that were on top of her. She was too weak, too small, it wouldn't be possible to crawl or lift yourself out.

She could feel her consciousness fade, slowly blacking out from the damage to her body and the fatigue.

Just before Onyx fainted, she could faintly catch a figure walking towards her from the corner of her eye; they took slow, menacing steps, not at all concerned that the broken child would slip into the afterlife. Their attire consisted of a white suit and a blue tie, from what she could make out, they were also wearing a light blue cloak of sorts.

. . .

Onyx's vision began to clear up, her eyes adjusting to the bright lights of the hospital room-At least, it looked like one. There were bright white lights hanging from the ceiling, and the floors were made of tile. There were two bookshelves across the room, which laid next to each side of a large tube of liquid. The tube was connected to multiple wires and streams, while the liquid was a tint of turquoise blue. A kit of needles and other equipment sat beside her on a medal tray. What bothered her most was the absence of any windows, and the door needed a passcode for both leaving and entering.

"So you're finally awake," A feminine voice snapped Onyx out of her thoughts. "You've been unresponsive for quite some time now."

She slowly stirred from the hospital bed, the wood creaking on the floors. The woman's words bewildered her, however, she recognized it was the same woman who found her.

And she could hardly remember anything.

"How long was it? A few days?" The young Onyx questioned, cocking an eyebrow in curiosity.

"Two years."

"...What?"

The strange woman smiled—a smile devoid of emotion or meaning.

"You were in that state for two years. In other words, you were in a coma."

Dull eyes widened, and she stared in shock. A two-year coma? How old is she now?

Thoughts ran through Onyx's head, trying to take in everything that has happened so far; she somehow lost most of her memories, so much as she could barely remember her name. She was apparently in a hospital that screamed red flags. And lastly, she had woken from a deep sleep that lasted many months, even though it felt like a few days to her.

"How old am I now, miss?"

Her eyebrows raised in genuine curiosity, and the nurse simply chuckled in amusement—It sounded sinister, if Onyx were to be honest.

"I'm guessing you're perhaps ten years old now, if I'm correct."

"Ten years..."

"That is so."
