Two days have passed since that fateful night. I've been going through the motions, trying to act like everything is normal, but inside I'm a mess.Every time I think about what happened, my mind is flooded with regret and I can't seem to shake the shame and self-blame.
I've tried to distract myself with my work, but it's not working.
Work is not working talaga.
Every time I try to focus on my tasks, I can't help but relive that night over and over again in my mind. The memories are like a constant movie playing in my head, and no matter how hard I try to push them away, they just keep coming back.
It's like that night has left a permanent imprint on my brain, and I can't escape it, no matter what I do.
I shake my head, trying to clear my mind of the intrusive thoughts. I take a deep breath and force myself to focus on my work.
I try to push the memories into the back of my mind and remind myself that dwelling on the past won't change anything. I have to stay present and focus on the here and now.
I'm here in the office, sitting at my assigned table, sorting through the papers that need arranging.
I was deep in thought as I arranged the pile of papers on my table. Suddenly, one of the papers with staples on it falls onto the floor.
I adjust my swivel chair to reach it and bend down to pick it up. As I'm picking up the paper hindi ko naman maiwasan na tignan yun.
I flip through the staple papers and see that it's for — Vaughan's Company.
Wait Vaughan's Company?
I look at the paper once again, trying to make sense of this new name, but I don't recognize it, wala pa akong may nakikitang ganitong pangalan dito sa mga papeles.
I push my swivel chair towards her desk, curious to find out more about Vaughan's Company at bakit ngayon ko lang nakita ito dito.
"Hey Monica, have you heard of Vaughan's Company before? I just found their name on one of the papers I was sorting."
She looks at me quickly and then glances back at her computer.
"Oh right, I forgot to mention this earlier. Vaughan's Company is one of our new clients. We recently won their contract, so we've been working on some documents for them." Monica explains, typing away on her keyboard as she continues. "I was going to tell you, but I guess it slipped my mind."
I furrow my eyebrows as I process this new information.
"Wait, when did we win the contract with Vaughan's Company? Bakit hindi ko alam ang tungkol dito?" My confusion and surprise is evident in my tone.
"Actually, we won the contract with Vaughan's Company a few days ago. Mr. Stanley informed us about it yesterday, but you went out to buy lunch at that time so you weren't here." Monica glances at me apologetically, knowing that I missed out on the important news.
