The sun hung low in the Nairobi sky, casting a warm golden hue over the bustling Kenyatta University campus. Clay stood near the entrance of the orientation hall, his heart racing. He'd spotted the girl from six months ago, the one who had left an indelible mark on his memory.Lilo.Back then, they had been part of a prestigious leadership program, chosen as top candidates for their potential to change the world. Clay had admired Lilo from afar, her intelligence and determination shining like a beacon. But they'd never spoken, never exchanged more than fleeting glances.

Now, fate had brought them together again. Lilo entered the room, her eyes scanning the crowd. She looked different and confident, perhaps still carrying that air of mystery that had intrigued Clay all those months ago. He couldn't believe she was here, at the same university, pursuing the same course. It was like a cosmic wink, a secret shared between the stars.
Clay's mind raced. Should he approach her? What if she didn't remember him? But he couldn't let this opportunity slip away. As soon as Lilo settled into a seat, he pulled out his phone and looked up her Instagram profile. His fingers trembled as he typed:
"You couldn't tell us you're going to Kenyatta University?"
He hit send before his mind could second-guess him. The seconds stretched into eternity. Then, a buzz-a message from Lilo. His heart skipped a beat.
"I don't recognize you," she replied.
Clay's grin threatened to split his face. He promised himself he wouldn't mess this up. He'd find her, talk to her, and maybe create a real connection this time.
But life has a way of playing tricks. After orientation, Clay searched for Lilo, but she had vanished. He made calls, and asked around, but no one seemed to know where she was. Disheartened, he walked back to his place in Kahawa Sukari, accompanied by his friend Jack. They talked about missed chances, the universe's whims, and the fragility of fate.
The next day, Clay's determination remained unshaken. With Jack by his side, he scoured the campus, following Lilo's freshman directions like a treasure map. And then, there she was-Lilo, strolling with another boy. Clay's heart sank. Their meet-up was ultra-brief, a mere nod of acknowledgment. He decided to stop searching, fearing he'd come off as needy.
But Lilo had other plans.
That night, she messaged him on Instagram: "Hey, I found you!"
They chatted about the leadership program, reminiscing about late-night discussions and shared dreams. Clay confessed he'd hoped for more during their earlier encounter, maybe even an invitation for ice cream.
Lilo disappeared again, leaving that chat on read for six days. Clay's frustration grew, but he refused to give up. He replied to her Instagram story, teasing: "Look who's walking all alone now!" Again, silence. Until one day, Lilo finally responded, asking about their program allowance.
Clay seized the chance. "Whenever you're alone," he typed, "hit me up. I'll show up and ask you weird questions."
And just like that, Lilo invited him to meet her. They sat on a bench near the jacaranda trees, laughter dancing between them.Clay realized that sometimes, the best friendships are born from missed connections, misread messages, and serendipitous encounters.

As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting long shadows, Clay and Lilo talked about everything-the stars, their dreams, and the ice cream they'd share someday. And in that moment, surrounded by whispers of jacaranda blossoms, their friendship truly began.
