I ignore the servant's intense looks as I stroll down the hallway still dressed in my nightgown. Given that I am the sole child of Duke Astor, the most powerful duke in the country, nobody has the courage to stop me."My lady! You can't dash through the halls wearing merely in your nightgown!" My personal maid yelled at me as she caught up with me. "You said that father called for me, so I have to hurry," I told her.
When I got at his office, I burst in without knocking. "Father! You called?" Said I. "Valerie, what did I tell you about knocking on the door before entering?" He spoke sternly while sitting in his office chair. Both of my older brothers are also here, most likely assisting him with his work, although their complexions do not seem well.
"Why are you still in a nightgown?" Asked him. "Valerie, you are a lady, you should behave accordingly. It's inappropriate for a lady to leave her room wearing only a nightgown," he adds. Father has always treated me well because I am his only daughter. He always give me what I want and stay by my side. "Sorry, father, it's a habit," I said, with an apologetic expression.
"Why do your faces seem so serious? Is there something wrong?" I asked with curiosity. My father replied, "Sit down, let's talk about it," which caught my interest in what was going on. "Valerie, me and your brothers have decided to send you to the academy," he replied. "WHAT?!" I said in shock tone. That's the most shocking news I've heard in a long time! As the Duke's daughter, I never have to raise a finger, but the academy?! Suddenly?!
"Why is it so sudden? Did something happen?" I asked, still shocked. "Well, it needs to be done soon, and you need a proper education," interrupts my elder brother, Vance Valyn Astor, the current official heir to the dukedom. "You can't just laze around and do nothing, plus it will be a fun experience" stated him. I frown at him and disagree with his claim.
"Why not Valie?" "The academy is not that awful. Vance scored the highest in our batch," stated my second brother, Valentine Valen Astor, agreeing with his older twin. "Well, I am not like you guys! Who is the most outstanding and strongest in your batch? I've never received any education, all that I have is my flawless etiquette."
I sighed. "Fine...I'll go," I replied, accepting the offer. Father smiled at me. "Great choice, Valerie, I'll make sure you get the best time there, you'll be going there the following week, please tell me if you need anything, I'll cover it all," stated the father. "Remember, Valerie, I'm not doing this because I hate you, but because I want you to be independent, the academy doesn't allow any maids to enter, only you," he explained more clearly.
