It was a hot summer day, and Edd was lounging on the couch with a cola, the rotating fan blowing his shaggy brown hair out of his face with each pass. The television played mindless shows and movies, punctuated by painfully long advertisements for demeaning products.
Matt remained in his room, presumably fixing his appearance as the sound of records playing drifted from a distance, while Tom hadn't returned from his night of bar hopping.
Upon hearing a knock on the door, Edd groaned. Pulling on his grey t-shirt, he stood up and made his way to the door with a mumble.
"I'm coming, I'm coming."
He called out as he walked. He undid the lock tiredly, turning the knob and pulling back the door. The face that greeted him caused his eyes to widen.
Tord grinned widely, his eyes gleaming with excitement as he held up a large, ominous-looking metal briefcase.
"Hey, Edd! Sorry to drop by unannounced, but I just had to see you guys again!"
His voice was laced with enthusiasm, and he seemed completely unfazed by Edd's obvious annoyance at the interruption. As Edd stared at him, Tord continued.
"I know, I know, I'm a terrible person for barging in like this. But I promise, it's worth it! I've brought something really special this time."
He wiggled the briefcase enticingly, his grin growing even wider.
"Care to join me for a little demonstration?"
Edd couldn't believe it. Was Tord seriously trying to act like everything from the past year hadn't happened? Like he hadn't almost killed everyone else living in this house? Glancing around frantically outside, Edd slammed the door in Tord's face, leaving him outside. He couldn't trust Tord, and he definitely couldn't trust whatever was in that briefcase. Quickly, he redid the lock and turned around, leaning his back against the frame with a huff. There was no way this was happening right now.
Tord's grin faltered for a moment as Edd slammed the door in his face, but he quickly recovered, chuckling to himself.
"Well, that was fun while it lasted."
He muttered, tapping the briefcase against his leg. He looked around, taking in the quiet neighborhood street. A few people passed by, but none paid him much attention. Satisfied that no one was watching, Tord produced a small device from his pocket and pressed a button. With a soft hum, the lock on the front door disengaged. Tord pushed the door open and stepped inside, closing it behind him. He glanced around the living room, his eyes settling on Edd, who was still leaning against the doorframe.
"Well, well, well. Looks like someone doesn't want to play nice."
Tord said, his voice low and menacing.
Edd stumbled as the door was pushed open. How could he forget how tech-savvy Tord was? Of course, a simple lock wouldn't stop him. Part of him wanted to be willing to hear him out and see why he decided to come back here. However, the sadistic part of him wanted to treat Tord exactly how he treated Edd and the rest of the gang.
"Why're you even here anyways?"
He'd scoff, peering down at the device that was used to disable the door's lock.
Tord shrugged nonchalantly, tucking the device back into his pocket.
"Just felt like dropping by, old buddy. You know, catch up on some lost time."
His gaze narrowed as he studied Edd's expression, a smirk playing on his lips.
"Or maybe I'm here because I realized how much I miss our little... 'adventures'."
