Arabella Hatchett had a very complicated upbringing.
Her mother passed away when she was only 8, while giving birth to her little sister, who sadly also died with her mother.
After Arabella's mother died, her father began to drink and began to become violent with Arabella. He would hit, throw stuff at her, he'd beat her.
The kids and the teachers weren't stupid, they knew what was happening. The long sleeves during summer, the scratches, bruises, cuts, and the scars. She wasn't and slick as she thought she was.
Arabella sat on the bleachers during free time of gym. She didn't have any friends, so all of her free time during school went to homework/reading/drawing.
Coach Smith walked around the gym supervising the students, but Arabella caught his eye. He sighed and then walked up the bleachers, he sat next to her, and glanced over at her notebook. She was sketching her mother.
Arabella's mother always wanted the best for her. She had her in karate lessons, she had her learning multiple languages, she taught her about the katana, but never let her touch the sword.
"Who's that?" he asked, and Arabella sighed, and glanced around the room, "My mom." she muttered as she pulled on the sleeves of her sweater. "I didn't know you were an artist." he spoke as he examined the page. She smiled lightly, "You never asked." she whispered, she finally looked up at her gym coach, she moved her left hand behind her neck and rubbed it.
Negan had always tried his best to bring Arabella out of her comfort zone, it never worked.
The bell rang and everyone began walking out of the gym, Arabella grabbed her things and packed up, "Can I help you with something, Mr. Smith?" Arabella asked as she finally got all of her stuff into her bag and stepped of the bleachers with Negan following behind, "Do you have a ride home?" he asked and Arabella shook her head, "No, I normally walk home." she said as she looked everywhere but Negan's face.
Negan shook his head and sighed, "I'll drive you."
Arabella shook her head and scrunched up her nose, "No, I wouldn't want to impose, Mr. Smith." she said as she repeatedly shook her head, "I live just down the street." she said with a smile that didn't quite reach her eyes, "Well, at least let me walk you outside." he said and Arabella nodded.
The duo walked outside the building and walked to the sidewalk, "Alright kid, you be safe. I'll see you tomorr-" Negan was quickly cut off by a loud scream and a girl ran out of the school, it was the only girl who was nice to Arabella, Grace.
Grace had blood running down her neck, "Oh my god!" Negan exclaimed as a teacher came out after her, he was growling, his eyes were fogged over, and he had blood dripping from his mouth. The teacher ran at another student and ripped a chunk of skin out of the student's face.
"Holy shit, what's going on?!" Arabella yelled as she watched more people start trying to eat other people, "I've seen this on the news, this has been happening in other countries. We gotta go." Negan said as he grabbed Arabella's arm and pulled her to his truck.
Arabella jumped in, Negan made sure that she was safely inside before he got in himself, "Where do you live?"
"What?"
"Where do you live?" Negan said again but this times slower. If Arabella was being completely honest, she didn't want to tell Negan where she lived. She didn't wanna go home, but she knew Negan wouldn't stop asking until she gave him an answer, so she told him her address and they quickly drove there.
In Arabella's opinion, they got there way to fast.
Arabella stepped out of Negan's truck and her quickly pulled her inside and shut the door. Negan glanced around and saw that the house was trashed, but there were some spots that were cleared as Arabella could move around without any problem.
"Dad?" Arabella questioned as she looked around the house and saw that his chair was empty. She walked around the house, but her father was nowhere to be seen. She finally took a step into the backyard and saw her father's know fogged over white eyes starting back at her. He was laying on the floor, his legs, no longer attached to his body as he tried his best to get to Arabella.
"Dad?"
Arabella's voice cracked as she saw her father try to move around. Her father may have been a monster, but he was still her father, and at least he stuck around.
Negan watched from the door as Arabella turned around with a cold look in her face. She walked inside past Negan, she walked into her father's room and pulled open the closet and saw her mother's sword. She grabbed the sword and turned around and saw Negan looking at her.
"Leave him. He deserves it." Arabella stated and Negan nodded. He understood that, that was what she wanted, and he was gonna make sure no one would ever hurt her again.
