(i hate this actually i just eneeded to post ebfore my writers block gets any worse dont hate on me ill proabbyl cry but enjoy anyways bye)
𝐕𝐈𝐁𝐑𝐀𝐍𝐓 𝐋𝐈𝐆𝐇𝐓𝐒 flickered around the crowded room, casting a glow on the dozens of dancing bodies. the party scene was something comforting and familiar to you; the laughter getting lost and mixed in with the music bouncing off the walls, the warm and fuzzy feeling in the bottom of your stomach after taking one too many shots, the different types of people that were there for you to analyze.
you gazed around at the people at the party, seeing a few new faces but mostly a mixture of your old and current classmates. feeling a hand reach out and touch the small of your back, you turned your head with a dazed smile to meet the eyes of your best friend.
"koushi! i haven't seen you all night, bub," your words slightly slurred, gently slapping his shoulder, "i've missed you!"
sugawara koushi, who had been your best friend since your first year when you began managing the boys' volleyball club, was a warm and comfortable presence in your life. the two of you had instantly clicked, becoming best friends in what felt like minutes. he and daichi had been your stand-in family for so long now that you couldn't even remember life without them.
"i've missed you too, pretty. i was dealing with some people that somehow found their way into my parents' room," he grimaced, shaking his head. "host duties and whatnot."
"yeah, i understand that a little bit too well."
"are you coming with us to training camp on sunday morning?"
"y/n! you better say yes; you keep everyone in check," a new voice came through your other ear. daichi's heavy hand landed on your head, ruffling your hair. you groaned, swatting it away.
"quit that! yes, i'm coming with you guys," you huffed, "it's not like i have friends other than you all."
daichi laughed, shaking his head and wrapping an arm around your shoulders. "i'm glad. i think you're actually gonna have fun at this one. i have a few people to introduce you to."
you smiled, feeling a wave of warmth and belonging wash over you. it was true—being part of the team gave you the family you'd never thought you'd have. the boys had become more than just friends; they were more like brothers; although annoying, they were always there for you without a second thought.
as you zoned out staring at the crowd, you felt a tug on your sleeve and turned to see hinata grinning and kageyama looking slightly irritated.
"y/n! come play a game with us," hinata shouted over the music.
you glanced back at sugawara and daichi, who both nodded encouragingly.
"go ahead, we're not going anywhere," daichi said close to your ear and patted your other arm to send you off.
you let hinata drag you to a corner of the room where a group had gathered around a table, excitedly preparing for a game of flip-cup. you took your place, feeling the excitement rising in your chest.
as your turn came up, you flicked the cup, and somehow managed to get it on the second try. the small crowd around the table got louder, and you laughed, pointing at kageyama's pouting face.
"you just have good luck!" kageyama grumbled, attempting his own flip. his cup flew off the table and hit hinata square in the forehead.
hinata yelped, rubbing his head. you laughed, causing his face to heat up in anger.
"it's not my fault he has such a big head, it's practially a target begging to be hit," kageyama whined.
time seemed to pass in a blur as you moved from one game to another, laughing and moving around with your friends. the music, the lights, and the crowd calmed you in a way you'd never been able to achieve before finding out how much you love parties. getting lost in the crowd and losing track of your thoughts gave you a silent mind and buzzing limbs and you couldn't imagine a life where you weren't always chase that high.

eventually, you found yourself back with sugawara and daichi, slightly breathless but happy nonetheless. "are you guys having fun?" you asked, taking a sip of water to cool down and tapping on the rim of your cup.
"yeah, but i think we're gonna head back home soon," sugawara smiled at you, "do you want to walk with us?"
"of course, we've gotta rest up before sunday so i can be pretty again when you introduce me to all the hot captains of the other teams," you laughed, turning to daichi as the three of you walked towards the door.
"right, i forget that's the only reason you care to spend time with me," he faked a pained expression. you slapped his arm and sugawara laughed at the two of you before pushing you outside.
"i do have a feeling you're going to realllly enjoy this one though, there's a new team you haven't met before," sugawara wiggled his eyebrows at you and the three of you laughed together, chatting and joking the whole way home.

as you laid in your bed, you couldn't help but miss the fullness in your heart that you always felt when you were with your friends. in the dark, you found yourself hoping that maybe something would change and you wouldn't come home feeling as dull as you typically did.
