THE GENTLE BREEZE carried leaves and flower petals through the air, offering a small break from the sun's burning warmth. It was one in the afternoon, and [name] was enjoying a well deserved nap under a blossoming cherry. If it wasn't for her soft breathing, one could've assumed she was dead, her strange sleeping position similiar to an open casket funeral's dying one.

Her moment of peace got ripped to shreds within the blink of an eye when her little brother just so happened to shoot the ball in her direction.

"[NAME] WATCH OUT!" the young boy yelled out,  rushing towards his sleeping sister in hopes of saving her from the unfortunate impact. A little too late though. The ball crashed into the tree's bark with a forceful speed, before landing straight into her face. The girl jolted up, gasping as the ball rolled away.

"WHAT IN THE—" Before she could finish her sentence, her brother jumped into her arms, holding her tightly as tears streamed down his cheeks. "IM SO SORRY.. SO SO SORRY.."
He said in between hiccups, face hidden in the crook of her neck. She sighed, a concerned smile playing on her lips as she wrapped her arms around his trembling form. "It's okay, Charles. No need to cry. Look, I'm fine!"

The boy looked up with teary eye, sniffing.
"Did it hurt?" He asked softly, refusing to meet her gaze in fear of having upset her. Instead he was met by her hand ruffling his hair. "No, Charles. Maybe just a little. but I'm fine, see!" The blonde nodded and backed away a little, lifting the ball off the ground.

[name] stood up, ruffling Charles' hair one last time before wiping the grass off her pants and taking a deep breath. Her eyes wandered across the beautiful scenery, ears focused on the sounds around her; The chirping of birds, the rustling of leaves, and the voices that were calling her brother back onto the football field.

"Go beat their asses. I'll come get you when dinner is ready." She said encouragingly, watching a confident grin spread across his lips. "Yes ma'am!" And with that, the blonde ran off, dissapearing into the distance.

CHARLES WAS AN absolute sweetheart. A big ball of energy that's ready to burst at any time. Not like she minded though, it was one of the many things she found endearing. She loved him, and if she had to be honest, he was probably the sibling she was closest with.

Her walk back home was peaceful. Once arrived, her hand found its way to the doorknob, pushing it down and opening the door. "[name]?" She heard her mother call out from the kitchen. Instead of responding, the girl took her shoes off and made her way towards the older woman.
"Mom, is something the matter?" The older woman's gaze softened slightly when she saw her, putting down the stack of dishes into the sink.
"Oh, thank God. You're okay." She replied, voice shaking slightly.

[name] Stopped in her tracks, slightly confused by her mother's comment. What was that supposed to mean? "Well, yes. Why wouldn't I be?" She asked hesitantly, watching the older woman's eyes widen and look away. "Just a bad feeling, that's all dear."

Although she didn't really buy the whole thing, the [haircolor] haired girl decided to keep quiet, instead, focusing her attention to the leftovers on the counter. "Huh, you guys already ate dinner?" she asked. "..We did. This is for Charles." Her mother replied while she continued cleaning the slightly messy kitchen.

"Oh, alright then. I'll go get hi—"
"No, you stay home. It's fine." Her mother interrupted, waving her finger around. [name]'s eyebrows scrunched slightly as she eyed the older woman suspiciously. "Mom? What in the world is going on." "Nothing." Her responses were laced with a hint of irritation.
Confusion overwhelmed the girl, she knew something was up, she just couldn't understand what exactly was.

The doorbell rang, causing her mother to freeze as her eyes slowly darted towards the kitchen window. "Go upstairs, [name]" she said in a hushed tone, dragging her along to the staircase.
"Mom?! What is going on?!" "Just go already, dammit! You brat." Mother said angrily, not sparing her another glance as the girl stormed upstairs. She was pissed off and confused, closing the door with a loud thud before throwing herself onto the bed.

Shortly after a loud commotion could be heard from downstairs. Voices raising, desperate cries. Then a string of words caught her attention.
"You can't run away again. The girl was supposed to be married off three years ago, his patience is running low."

"The girl?"
Slowly [name] crept towards the door, hands trembling as she pushed the doorknob down and tiptoed out of the room.  The words kept ringing in her mind. She knew they meant her, her parents had no other daughter.

It was time to get the answers she deserved.
