I looked into Hezlin's eyes, feeling the weight of my unspoken confession. The truth lingered on the tip of my tongue, but I couldn't bring myself to burden her with it just yet. Instead, I pulled her closer, wrapping my arms around her and resting my chin on her head.
"Hezlin, I know things have been strange," I said softly, my voice barely above a whisper. "But you have to trust me. I won't let anything harm you."
She nodded against my chest, her arms tightening around me. "I trust you, Zade. It's just... the voice, it felt so real."
"I believe you," I replied, stroking her hair gently. "We'll figure this out together. For now, let's just focus on the present."
Hezlin pulled back slightly, looking up at me
with a mixture of concern and affection. "Okay," she said quietly. "But promise me you'll tell me if something's bothering you.""I promise," I said, hoping my voice conveyed the sincerity I felt. "Now, let's get some rest. It's been a long day."
We settled into a comfortable silence, the tension between us easing as we enjoyed the simple comfort of each other's presence. The storm outside had calmed to a gentle drizzle, the rhythmic patter of rain against the window a soothing backdrop.
As we were about to sleep, a knock on the door startled us both. Hezlin's eyes widened. "Oh damn, I totally forgot about Sofia! She told me we would spend the whole night together, have snacks, dinner, and watch a movie," she exclaimed."So, what now? Should I leave?" I asked, already dreading the idea.
"No, stay," Hezlin insisted, her eyes pleading. "I'll handle everything. Just trust me."
"But what about Sofia? Won't she ask why I'm here?" I hesitated.
"Just chill, I'll handle it," Hezlin reassured me.
I reluctantly agreed and sat on the couch, pretending to read a book as Hezlin approached the door. When she opened it, Sofia stood there with a teasing grin. "What took you so long, Hezlin? Were you...?" Her eyes fell on me, and she couldn't complete her sentence, her expression turning to surprise. "No way! So you two...?" she said, a smirk playing on her lips.
I blushed, smiling a little. Hezlin quickly intervened. "No, no, it's not what you think! We're just friends, Sofia. Don't assume anything."
Sofia laughed. "Come on, you don't have to cover up. I'm not your mother. Chill." I stood and greeted Sofia as she handed a bag of food to Hezlin.
"First, let's eat dinner. My stomach is growling," Sofia said, rubbing her belly dramatically.
We all sat down to eat together, chatting about the day's events. As Sofia's eyes fell on Hezlin's necklace, she exclaimed, "Wow, what a mesmerizing necklace, Hezlin! It suits you perfectly."
A sweet smile spread across Hezlin's face. Watching her, I couldn't help but be captivated by her beauty, even in her simple nightdress. The necklace only enhanced her angelic appearance. Lost in the moment, I was jolted back to reality by a tap on my shoulder.
