*************

Sandra was sat in her local library revising for her upcoming A-Levels. She was studying Mathematics, Economics, Accounting and Psychology. She had been in the library for almost 3 hours and although she was tired and hungry at the same, she knew she didn't have a choice but to go on. She had her exams coming up in May and failure was not an option. She was dressed in black leggings, a black and grey nike hoodie and all black huaraches with her wavy hair put up into a messy bun.

This was a normal Saturday morning for Sandra. As soon as the library closed she would make her way home, eat, take a nap and then continue with her revision. When she got home, she found none of her family members in the house just as she expected.

Her mother, Carmen, who was half Spanish and half Nigerian, was most likely at one of her two jobs. She worked as a cleaner and a sales assistant for two different companies. Although her job did not bring in much money, they somehow managed to survive through every bill at the end of the month. That was the thing, although they were surviving, they were not exactly comfortable. Her parents did not give her the chance to go to university, simply because she was a woman. Her parents were clearly very traditional. Instead they sent her younger brother, Michael who only ended up wasting the money on girls and gambling. Til this day, his gambling addiction was still ongoing and Carmen had lost contact with him.

Unlike Carmen, Sandra's 19 year old sister, Savannah did have the opportunity to go to university. Although she could get a student loan and maintenance loan to cover all costs which she would pay back once she found a job, she decided not to because she didn't really like the idea of owing money to the government. Her mother expected her to at least get a job seeing as she was not continuing on with her education. Every time Savannah got a job she would get fired not long after. So now she had given up and was dependant on their 22 year old brother, Samson.

Samson also decided against going to university after 17 years of watching his mother struggle with two jobs in order to provide for her three children. At the age of seventeen, Samson started his hustle and once he turned eighteen he moved out of his mother's house. She did not approve of his new found lifestyle and was always on his back about it, so he left. Samson was making quick money and loved his mother and sisters. They were the only women he needed in his life. So he always anonymously put money in his mother's account knowing that she wouldn't accept it if she knew that it was from him.

Sandra was quite proud of the amount of work she had done today and was ahead of her revision schedule. So she called her friend Rachel on her iPhone 5s that Samson bought for her to see if she could come over. Rachel said it would be fine and so Sandra made her way over.

She picked up her Oyster card to get the bus, her keys and her phone. It only took her about 15 minutes to get there.

She got to Rachel's flat and as usual she walked up the stairs to the fifth floor. She was never a fan of lifts and after all the stories Rachel had told her about being stuck in this lift for hours on end, she always decided against it.

Once she got to her door, she knocked and waited for her to open the door. Rachel swung the door open with a smile on her face. Sandra walked straight pass her, took off her shoes and made her way to her friend's room to get comfortable.

"Well, hello to you too" Rachel said still standing at the door. She closed the door and went to her room to find Sandra laying in his bed, under her covers with her eyes closed. Rachel was not surprised. This was what they tended to do whenever they went to the other's house. They would simply lie in bed and talk. They weren't the closest of friends but they were good friends and they trusted each other. Rachel jumped into the bed and lay beside her.

"Where is my hello?" she questioned jokingly. Sandra's eyes remained closed. She wasn't sleeping and she could hear every would Rachel was saying.

"Say nothing. Forget I had juice to tell you" She said turning her back towards Sandra. Her eyes popped open after hearing that. Juice was another word for college gossip.

"Rachel, if you don't start talking" she threatened jokingly.

Rachel laughed at how gossip was enough to get her friend talking again. "Okay okay, Jordan broke up with Tracy after she found out about his cheating habits"

Sandra looked at her friend for a while before rolling her eyes. "Why are you rolling your eyes? You know she looooves that guy, I feel bad for her" she added emphasis on the 'love'.

"I don't care because I warned her so many times about Jordan. He's the type of guy that will put his boys before his girl without hesitation. He's been in almost every girl in our college's DMs. I don't understand how girls become so desperate to be in a relationship that they forget about their self worth" she stated. She cared about her friend but she refused to feel sorry for her. She never got emotionally involved with the boys in her college because she knew they were nothing but trouble.

The girls continued talking about the recent happenings that had been going on at their college for a couple more hours before Sandra decided to go home. It was getting late and she knew her mum would throw a fit if she got home late knowing they had church in the morning.

When she got home, she saw her mother on the couch in the living room sleeping. It was nine o'clock and her mum was still in her work clothes so she must have been really tired. She got a blanket and covered her mother with it to keep her warm.

Her sister was not home which did not surprise her, she hardly ever was. Savannah did not have to go to church as her mum gave up a long time ago but Sandra had no choice. Despite the fact that she did not have a choice, she did not mind church, her only issue was how early she had to get up for it. Other than that, she didn't mind it because the preacher was funny and so it was not so boring. Also there were other people her age who she could sit with and talk to.

She began to get ready for bed and just as she was getting into bed she heard her phone go off. She picked it up forgetting to look at the caller ID.

"Hello?"

"You mean to tell me that you don't have my number saved, Peach?" Only one person called her that. She never understood where the nickname came from but that's what he had been calling her since before she could remember.

"Oh Sam" she chuckled. "My bad, I didn't even check who it was"

"Are you alright though?"

"I'm fine. I miss you" She hadn't spoken to her brother in over a week and she hadn't seen him in over a month.

"I miss you too, but you know I'm always busy. How's mum?"

"She's fine, she misses you too. Maybe you should come to church tomorrow" hope filled her voice.

"I don't know Peach" he sighed. "I'll see what I can do, I'm not making any promises though"

"Okay Sam, and don't come in no tracksuit" she laughed.

"Do you want me to come or not?" he questioned with a smile on his face.

"I want you to come, wear what ever you like. As long as you come, okay?"

"Okay, Peach" she yawned. "Go to bed".

"Goodnight Sam"

"Night Peach" he said hanging up.

Shortly after, Sandra was snoozing while Sam was making his way out to get a few things sorted.
