     " Check the price."

The clerk nodded and grabbed the necklace with thin blue gloves. I watched patiently as he pulled out his tools. I was selling the lady's necklace at the pawn shop. I could just tell by looking at it it was expensive. My fingers tapped against the glass. Sweat glistened my forehead as the tapping got more progressive.

" Fuck!" I slammed my fist.

The clerk flinched, nearly dropping the necklace. He gave me a confused look before continuing. I let out a deep exhale, rubbing a hand down my face. I didn't mean to scare off the clerk. I looked down at the cigarette that spinned through my fingers.

" Can I smoke?" The clerk nodded.

I quickly pulled out a cig and lit it. The smoke fled to the roof slowly as I leaned my back against the counter. I had lunch with the lady as she requested. I suppose it was nice as she was never rude- a big judgy but better than most people I meet. She was very mindless, not even understanding why this area was poor. It was annoying but at least I got what I wanted. I closed my eyes before a loud purpose cough was heard.

" I- it's real." He states.

He placed the necklace gently onto a small red cloth. He pulled out a graph of types of diamonds and others.

" I used all of my diamond testers- all say they are real. I also used some other tools like a magnifier, err- and uh this-"

" I get it but what's the price?" He quickly nodded and pulled out a check.

" Twenty thousand. It's created by an expensive brand from the 1920s, my guess is from some old wealthy family.. Maybe a family heirloom- no, it's too perfect to be one. Most heirlooms are at least a bit rusty or have something special within. I don't really know but it definitely is money worthy."

" Great."

NARI

Covering my ears at 4 and resting my hands on my eyes. Now listening to classy music and watching violins play. My dad was divorced due to my mother only using him for money. Fake love was the worst. My dad let out a soft sigh, squeezing my hand gently as we watched and listened to the string and percussion orchestra play smoothly. I smiled.

I found it funny when my daddy acted like a grandpa when he was still at the ripe age of 40. He was always so sweet, doing best so he could take care of me when I was a child.

" How has the violin been for you? If the violin teacher isn't doing so well, I can change it-" " It's been fine daddy. calm down." I say reassuringly. I gave him a peck on his wrinkly cheek. He nodded, humming before slowly looking away.

Suddenly, there was a loud muffled buzz by my dad. He pulled out his phone before sighing. He looked back at me with guiltiness.

" Sorry, it's your mother and-" I nodded.

He got up from his seat and headed out the red leather doors. I rested my chin on the palm of my hand. I never really liked my step - mother. She was just like mom- a bit more affectionate and caring but still a golddigger. I bet she was calling my dad to ask for another designer bag. I went back to watching the orchestra play. The many alignment of chairs, and the small ol' stage for the conductor. The bows moved so elegantly against the four steels of lines. The white powder blowing into the air; the bright stage lights reflecting against the diamonds of the hanging chandelier. Could blind a person if it was brighter.

I fiddled with my fingers, playing with the small diamond ring. I wanted to go home.. I made the quick decision and got up from my seat. It was rude to leave in the middle of music and even worse in Korea but this was an emergency- Er, not at all actually but myself could not stand this anymore.

I quickly spotted daddy on the phone by the exit with a grin splattered over his face. Daddy always loved step - mother, even if she asked for a lot he appreciated her more. He just wanted to be loved for who he truly is. I snuck out of his view easily and got outside. Fresh air of Michigan. Pulling up my sweater, I headed out to explore the city. I promise to myself to not wander so far this time!

It was a friday so traffic was high and sounds were increased. The cold winds of October. I skipped across the busy sidewalks with a soft smile. I always loved the city. If I ever got hungry, I could just turn right. Or if I needed to do a quick thrift I can just head two blocks! My skirt swayed as I squealed excitingly. Oh the city!!

In the middle of my excitement, I tripped by a fire hydrant before falling. I yelped. My eyes squeezed tightly before the realization. I felt like I was flying? My thin doe eyes then opened.

"Oh..!" A man held my waist securely, his face inches from mine.

I blushed heavily, my long black hair draping behind my shoulders. My eyes widened in stunned silence. Damn he was handsome! Maybe he was dressed as a hobo but he was handsome. Dark chocolate skin, soft jawline, sweet eyes, sharp cheeks, messy locs..

" You're welcome." He grunted

He quickly helped me up, a hand slipping by my skirt. Seriously, a perv? At least he saved me. I quickly bowed respectfully.

" Th- thank you! You are so very kind!!" I exclaimed.

When I stood up he was already leaving. How rude!! I puffed, pouting. Dang it! I can't resist a chance like that! I sped up to him before walking beside him. He didn't even stop for a second. I rolled my eyes before speaking.

"So~ Where you heading?" I say in a seductive tone, swinging my designer bag.

He glanced at me for a moment before reverting his eyes and tightening the strings of his hood. I thought only girls were hard to get? I bit my bottom lip, thinking for a moment before he finally spoke.

" You don't want to know me." He says gruffly; his front locs covering partial of his brown eyes.

" Aww! Why! You seem so generous and kind-" "Key word- seem."

What a party pooper. I twirled a strand of hair.

"Look, I know that you're a nice and sweet person probably but I can't. I live in the city of Detroit for a reason, honey. Here- a flower paperclip for your travels."

I looked at him with wide eyes, gripping the paper clip as he walked away in silence. I've never been rejected before.. What the flip!! I turn around to see my father walking towards me with a frown. Not a lecture! I hadn't realized the boy I was following was going the opposite way I was originally going. This day is not going the way I want!!
