After leaving and writing your farewell note, you gaze up at your home, knowing you will never see it again; you look towards the roof seeing the moon; it's full, bright, and beautiful.

You let out a relaxed sigh giving the house one more glance. Then you turn towards the path in front of you starting to walk onto the trail that leads out of town,

I have a long journey ahead of me. Hopefully, I don't run into anyone... or get hungry

A few miles into the trail, you start to think about the stories your Grandmother told you about when you were younger; she would tell tails of creatures that roamed at night, feasting on anyone who dared step out after sunset. Your Grandmother was a very religious woman; she even kept scrolls that looked so ancient the paper was changing color; the scrolls also revealed pictures of said creatures.

"Y/n dear, listen carefully now."

"What is it, Grandma?" She points out one of the creatures depicted in the scroll. I follow her finger looking down at the drawing.

"Do you know what to do if you run into one of these beasts?" She looked over at me; at that time, I was at least 8 years old, but for my young age, I still had common sense.

"Run away, hide, and pray." I said so calmly; Grandmother would always repeat these words to me anytime she would visit and start ranting about these monsters.

"Good job, sweetheart, but we won't have to do any of that as long as you stay inside at night, ok?"

"Yes, ma'am." I paused for a moment me and my Grandmother now sitting in silence. But I was always a talkative kid, questioning everything and such.

"Grandma, are these things even real?"

"No, Y/n they are not."

"Then why tell me this if they're just folklore?" She sighs taking her glasses off and rubbing her eyes.

"I'm not risking anything, I don't want to lose you or your Mother and Father... these demons come straight from hell; yes, it is a story that has been told for generations, but it always irked me. These tails left me with a bad feeling as if demons are truly real."

She looked over at my small form now resting on her lap; 8-year-old me looked up at her with concern, as she stared back, grabbing at her cross necklace.

"Just promise not to go out at night time, all right, my dear?"

"Yes, Grandma I promise not to go out after dark."

"That's my girl!" She grabs my face covering me in kisses.

"Ok, ok," I giggle, pushing her away, although smiling from the affection. She soon walks me to my bed tucking me in and leaving one more kiss on my forehead.

"Goodnight, Y/n"

"Goodnight, Grandma"

That's how you concluded what you are now... A Demon, you never believed her but you sure do now. The same creatures in the scrolls... the ones you shared similar traits with, ghastly horns, sharp claws, strange eye color, the hunger for humans, and this newfound brute strength. The signs were all there.

You chuckle at the distant memory, "Look at me now, Grandmother, and to think I didn't believe in your silly stories."

While completely spacing out talking to yourself again, you hear light laughter in the distance.
