When the jet landed back at the academy, it was nearly dawn. Fury briefly spoke to them about their encounter with the Chitauries. Elsa sensed he was more impressed than he was letting on.

It must be a spy thing, always having to hide what you feel. She rolled her eyes at the thought.

There was a heavy thud, and the jet was safe to exit. They spilled out like ants, immediately retreating into the academy building—or at least what was left of it.

"All of you should take a moment to rest. You've earned it," Fury conversed, gazing at the eight of them. "I'll be taking Mss. Romanoff with me in this room to further discuss some details on the assault. If you hear or see anything, knock."

He shut the door behind Natasha, leaving the room silent. Fortunately, they happened to be in a sitting room, so various chairs and couches were spread about them.

Elsa sat cross-legged on a brown chair while Maven, Kate, Cade, Onix, and Lily took a couch. Edward and August took the other available charis.

"So, who do you think it is?" Lily asked into the silence. Her chin rested lightly on her palms, the sunbeams illuminating her reddish hair.

Cade kept his eyes on the floor. "It could be the Chitauri. I mean, that's who we've been fighting," he replied. It was the quietest tone Elsa had ever heard him speak in.

"Yes, but every great army needs a leader," Onx sighed hopelessly.

The room went quiet again. It was almost like they were afraid to speak.

"I had a crazy theory when this all started." Edward humed, breaking the silence.

"Oh really?" Elsa chimed back. "And what was this theory of yours?"

"I thought it was your father, actually. You know, his history with the Chitauri? It just made sense at the time."

Elsa couldn't help her glare. She narrowed her eyes.

"I suggest you stop talking," she hissed. "You thought wrong."

Edward looked offended, as if her words had punched him.

"Yes, I know that now, caption obvious," Edward mumbled dryly. "It's not like I'm accusing you of anything."

"I thought it was Onix."

It was so blunt that Elsa's anger vanished as quickly as it came.

August, realizing that everyone's eyes were now on him, looked down at his hands.

"You thought, or you think?" Onix queried, his eyes narrowing.

"I still believe it's you," August replied. His tone became harsh.

Sensing the tension, Elsa slithered her feet into a fighting stance. She'd at least be ready in the unlikely event of a fight. Glancing around, she realized that Kate and Lily had done the same.

August continued. "My point is, everyone in this room is connected to one of the Avengers or the vanished, as you may call them. Everyone except you. Where do you even come from? Who do you even belong to?"

Anger flashed in Onix's eyes. There was also a mix of pain if you looked far enough.

"Are you sure you want to do this right now?"

"If it means taking you out before you hurt anyone else," August rose from his seat. "Then yes."

Onix stood.

"Alright. You and me. Right now. Right here."

Without warning, August charged forward and threw multiple blasts of orange saws toward him. Onix dodged them and knocked him off balance with a wave of purple. August struggled against the sudden force.

Onix dove in for another attack, but August rolled to the side, and in his place, a bright golden circle appeared, which Onix fell into. The portal then appeared on the ceiling, sending Onix crashing to the floor.

They continued in physical combat, each fighting to get the best blows.

Cade sprang up and grabed Onix by the shoulders and Eward grabed August. They tried to pull them apart, but the two kept hurling toward each other.

"Is that all you've got?!" August sneered.

Onix laughed. "You have no idea what I'm capable of."

A vibrant green light blasted through the middle of the boys, instantly separating them and securing them in Cade's and Edward's grasp.

"Enough!"

Elsa stood in the middle of them, her hands swelling with green.

"If you don't want to find out what real pain feels like," she paused, her tone rigid. "Then I suggest you stop. Now."

They stopped struggling and held still. Onix shook off Cade's hands and stalked off toward a vacant room.

Crash!

Onix froze midstep.

Crash!

Elsa turned around. The sound was coming from behind the door, the door Fury and Natasha were behind.

They listened for another sound, but nothing came. It had gone completely silent. Elsa reignited her magic.

Cade rushed to the door. "Should I open it? We should open it, right?"

Edward dramatically rolled his eyes.

"No, we're supposed to knock."

"Realy?"

"No! Of course, we should open the door! What are you waiting for? Lets go, lets go!"

Cade gave a startled jump and flung open the door.

They bolted inside. A Chitauri was perched on the windowsill, with two large sacks over its back. Onix aimed a violet blast at it, but he missed entirely and hit part of the window, causing it to crumble. The Chitauri hissed and jumped out the window. A small ship caught its fall, and it disappeared as fast as it had come, flying off into the night sky.

"Well, at least we know it's not Onix anymore." Cade half smiled.

"It took both of them," Kate muttered as she looked out the window. She turned back around and faced the others.

"This means we're the only ones left."
