SARA WALKED DOWN the hallway, her posture a bit slouched from drained energy. She had her French book still in hand and her eyes were trained on the ground.

All the sudden someone practically bull rushed her with how hard they bumped their shoulder into hers. Sara almost fell from the force. Almost.

A hand caught her wrist and pulled her up right. She looked up to see Tyler Hernandez. Fresh from a fight in the hallway. His gaze was sharp and quick. He let go of her as soon as she was upright.

"Sorry!" His twin sister, Taylor smiled at her as she trailed behind her brother.

As soon as Sara took one step forward, she quickly had to take three steps back as the fight continued and a backpack was thrown in her direction.

Welcome to high school.

Sara made her way into the classroom. Her eyes immediately landed on two things. 1) Ashlyn Banner 2) the names plated on each desk. Assigned seats?

She walked towards Ashlyn before spotting her seat. She sat diagonally across from her best friend. Sara turned back to look at Ashlyn.

"Is it just me or do you also have a foreboding feeling?" Sara murmured to Ashlyn. Ashlyn hummed as she leaned down on her desk to hear Sara more clearly.

"Probably because of that." The ginger nodded towards the desk behind her. Sara turned to look and saw the big, bolded letters that spelled AIDEN C.

Ohhhhh crap.

Sara threw her head down with a sigh. She took a deep breath before opening her book. I pretend I do not see it.

She was so caught up in her novel that she didn't notice the Hernandez twins running in and the teacher trailing behind them. She was too focused on the flow of the words but was quickly snapped out of her trance as someone bumped into her desk.

She quickly looked up to see her blonde nightmare taking a seat behind her.

"Do you mind?" She said, kinda annoyed as she hasn't been able to read since she met this boy.

"Not at all!" He exclaimed with a smile as he leaned on his fist, planting his gaze on her.

Sara huffed as she turned back around and slouched in her seat with her arms crossed over her chest. Despite not looking at him, she could practically feel him burning holes in the back of her head.

"Alright, class! When it's your turn, state your first and last name and say something about yourself. As an example, I'll start us off." The teacher said as he wrote his name in big blue letters.

"My name is Thomas Walter and this is my first time teaching my own class. I look forward to being with you all!" Mr. Walter said with enthusiasm.

"Ashlyn Banner, I like dogs." Ashlyn started out first, glancing towards Sara who looked just as uncomfortable as she did.

"Sara Bennet. I enjoy reading." Sara said in a clear tone as she straightened her posture.

"I'm Aiden Clark, I like bungee jumping, skydiving, rock climbing, racing, water skiing-" The boy kept listing his interests and every hobby he's ever done. A thrill junkie Sara noted as the list went on.

Ben didn't even make it through introductions before he fell asleep but Aiden made sure to back him up, stating his name as well.

"Hello I- the- uh.." The boy with glasses stumbled. Sara has only seen him a few times around school and sometimes at the floral shop her mom made her stop by. "Logan Fields. I mean I'm Logan fields....I um, I enjoy astrology."

"I'm Taylor Hernández! I'm in the mechanics club. Come say hi if you get the chance." Taylor said in an unusual cheery tone for this school.

"I'm Tyler Hernández, yes, we're twins. I'm in the baseball club." Tyler introduces in a bored tone.

Other people went after but Sara was bouncing her leg as she was examining the teacher. She didn't know what it was but she didn't have a good feeling about him. At all.

"Alright, now that introductions are done, " Mr Walter spoke up with a smile. "Let's talk about the semester-long group project! Today, you'll be choosing your group's partners for the project and each group should consist of six people with one group going to have seven due to the uneven number of kids in the class."

Sara internally groaned. She really, really hated group projects. The work was never even, the people she worked with were incompetent, and half the time, the subject isn't even interesting.

"Oh, and no one will be allowed to work alone." Freaking great.

"The rest of class will be about the project, so go ahead and sit wherever you want with your group for today." Mr. Walter said as the groups began to form.

Sara rested her head on her hands as she looked around at her group. Ashlyn, Aiden, Ben, Taylor, Tyler, and Logan. An eccentric mix of contrasting personalities. None of them should have anything in common.

"Our main focus this semester will be the history of Georgia's oldest city, Savannah. This is also what your project will be about and the topics you'll choose to present on are stated in your rubric. Additionally, there is an overnight field trip to go along with the project!"

An excited chatter started going around the classroom at the mention of a field trip. A field trip to the most boring city in Georgia? She's good.

"Of course it's optional, however those who attend can get extra credit for an individual grade. If you are interested, the permission slips are on my desk and include everything you'll need to know." Extra credit? That might be something Sara could use.

"For the rest of the period, please choose what topic your group would like to present on. You've got twenty-five minutes so spend it wisely." Mr. Walter said with a thumbs up.

The seven sat in silence as they all avoided each other's gaze. Sara didn't really know these people (besides Ashlyn) but she wasn't about to get a bad grade because of that.

"What if we do the history behind Savannah?" Sara voiced out. "There's a lot of notable points and everyone can talk a little about each subject. I can do most of the research."

Aiden was leaning his cheek against his hand, staring at the girl. "Fine with me." He murmured, not really paying any attention to what the girl was saying except for how her lips moved when she spoke.

"Are you sure? That's a lot of work." Taylor asked with a smile as she looked at Sara unsure.

Sara waved off her worries. "I have lots of free time." Tyler shrugged as he pulled out his phone and leaned back in his seat. "Sounds good to me."

Logan nodded. "Savannah's history is very complex.." Logan said as he fidgeted with his fingers. Ben just nodded along.

Aiden suddenly then got an idea. "Let's make a group chat so we can talk about the project." Aiden smiled as he handed his phone to Sara first.

The last bell of the day rang and every student lined up for a permission slip. Except Ashlyn and Sara. Both for different reasons.

"You two aren't gonna go on the field trip?" Aiden smiled as he held up the permission slip.

Ashlyn glanced at him before walking away with a simple. "I'd rather stay home."

Aiden then moved his stare towards Sara. Sara chewed the inside of her cheek. "I have to.....study. For other classes, so, yea." Sara said politely as she walked away also. Aiden watched Sara running to catch up with Ashlyn.

He glanced down at the permission slip pile and picked two up.
