Several more days elapsed with no significant developments in the case they were diligently working on.

During those days, Spencer had time to recover. Finally, his blood was clean since Jona wasn't able to do anything to Spencer as he was surrounded by Hotch or Morgan and sometimes a few FPI agents for protection.

Hotch didn't argue much longer about the reason all this happened because Spencer was not willing to give a convincing answer, but he would not drop it for sure.

After his recovery, Reid insisted on going back to work, even though Hotch was against it. However, Hotch decided it's better to keep him under his sight at least.

Jona, on the other hand, wasn't happy now that his plan had gone sideways, and perhaps he's no longer going to be able to intimidate Reid as much as he wanted.

The team gathered at the round table, listening to Hotch. "This case has been difficult for all of us, but I don't want you to give up. There have been a lot of challenges, and we can't surrender. Failure is also a part of what we do," Hotch encouraged his agents because everyone was doubting where they went wrong. But they are FPI, and sometimes cases are hard to solve.

It was 9:30 PM now, and they've been working all day long; everyone was exhausted.

Reid went to the small kitchen corner where the coffee machine was; he needed to stay awake. Pouring the brown liquid into his cup, he felt the presence of someone behind him.

"How are your wounds, Spencer?" Jona said it with a teasing tone.

Spencer sighed. "They are much better. No thanks to you," he grabbed his cup after it was filled and wanted to head out when his way was blocked by Jona's arm.

"You know I haven't forgotten about you, Spencer, and it's funny how you work hard on this case that will lead to your doom," Jona taunted.

"Who said I'm working on the case? Maybe I'm working specifically to bring you down," Spencer smiled with confidence.

"Huh, you don't say," Jona smirked and chewed the gum he had in his mouth loudly.

Their conversation was disturbed by Garcia, who called out for Spencer from the desks area.

"Excuse me," Reid bypassed Jona and made his way to Garcia.

Jona looked at Spencer up and down while he was heading for Garcia.

"You're pushing your luck, Doctor," Jona muttered to himself and went to his own desk, which was aligned with where Morgan was seated.

"What's your deal with Spencer?" Morgan asked out of nowhere; he had his doubts about Jona for a while. For some time, he was noticing how Jona was almost stuck with Spencer, talking and whispering to him while Spencer's features clearly seemed upset or not interested.

"What do you mean?" Jona played the fool once again.

"Nothing; I just find you suspicious sometimes," Morgan answered plainly.

"Well, they say there's always this one guy at work that doesn't like you. Maybe you're just that guy, Morgan," With high confidence, Jona replied, maintaining a steady tone.

Morgan decided it's not fruitful to keep arguing with Jona, as the latter never backs down.

"I did what you've asked me to do, Spence. Everything is legal: all papers, documents, and ID. Jona David is a legit FBI agent," Garcia said in a whisper.

"I see," were the only two words Spencer said, and he drifted away in his mind.

"What is the deal? Why..." Garcia started to ask, but Spencer interrupted.
