You park your car in the lot of the old brick building, its structure a stark contrast to the peaceful suburbs just ten miles away. A mental hospital wasn't your first choice, but jobs for newly graduated therapists are scarce, and desperation drives you here. As you step out of your car, you notice a woman in a nurse's uniform running from the building, her face pale and her blue eyes wide with fear.

"I quit! I'll never work in this institution again! The people here are insane, and they too will drive you nuts!" she screams, her voice echoing in the otherwise quiet afternoon.

A chill runs down your spine, but you force yourself to move forward. You need this job. You can't let one hysterical nurse scare you off. The thought of your student loans and the dream of establishing yourself as a renowned therapist pushes you to the entrance. The receptionist, a young woman with dark circles under her eyes, eyes you curiously but directs you to the boss's office.

As you walk through the dimly lit hallways, you pass by several patients and staff members. The patients look withdrawn, some muttering to themselves, while the staff avoids eye contact, their expressions wary. The building has a neglected feel, with peeling paint and flickering lights. The air is thick with a sense of foreboding, but you push those thoughts aside, reminding yourself why you are here.

In the boss's office, Dr. Miller greets you with a tight-lipped smile. He is an older man with thinning hair and a tired demeanor. The office is cluttered with files and papers, a testament to the workload.

"Welcome, Dr. (L/N). We could use someone with your enthusiasm," he says, extending a hand. "I hope the journey here wasn't too troubling."

"Not at all, Dr. Miller. I'm excited to start," you reply, trying to match his forced enthusiasm.

Dr. Miller gestures for you to sit, and you take a seat across from him. He shuffles through a stack of papers before finding your file. "I've reviewed your credentials, and they are impressive. We're in desperate need of dedicated therapists here at Greenfield. The patients can be... challenging, but I believe you have the skills to handle them."

"Thank you, Dr. Miller. I'm eager to put my training to good use," you say, feeling a mix of excitement and apprehension.

The interview is brief and, to your surprise, you are hired on the spot. Dr. Miller's smile doesn't quite reach his eyes as he hands you a contract.
