Vivian

It grew cold as the wolves closed in on me. My heart was pounding so hard in my chest that I thought it would burst out of fear. The wolves didn't wait, they lunged towards me, their claws and teeth bared.

"Umbrae circumdare." I whispered and a shadow formed in front of me, growing thicker and darker by the second.

The werewolves hesitated, snarling and growling as they tried to see through the darkness. But the shadows kept thickening until they were completely shrouded in blackness. Suddenly, I felt a sharp pain in my arm as one of the wolves managed to claw through the shadows and sink its teeth into my flesh.

I screamed in agony, trying to push the beast away with all my strength.

As I struggled to free myself, I heard the mocking laughter of Claudia in the distance. "You think you can escape us, Vivian? You should've known better than to gloat about killing my brother."

As pain spread all over my body, the magic I had conjured to protect myself started to falter. The werewolves began to close in on me once again, their eyes burning with hunger and rage. I ripped my arm away from the wolf's mouth, tearing my flesh in the process before fleeing. But that didn't help either.

The wolves chased me across the garden. One of them biting my leg. I stumbled and fell to the ground, my body wracked with pain. Turning on my back, I screamed loudly, grabbing anyone's attention. But Claudia was right, no one would come to save me, no one would willingly walk into a werewolf fight and danger themselves.

The wolves circled around me as she came forward.

"Pathetic. It seems like your little spells and tricks are no match for the power of our kind." She sneered, her eyes gleaming with satisfaction as she watched blood dripping from my leg and onto the ground.

"It still worked when I killed your brother, didn't it?" I said, mocking her, fueling her anger even when it was going to cost me.

Her face twisted with rage and she motioned for the wolves to attack me. They lunged forward and I closed my eyes, preparing for the worst when suddenly I heard a familiar growl erupting among the other growls.

Dion's wolf leapt into the fray, fighting off the other wolves with ease. His mouth clamped down on one of the wolves' necks, snapping it with a sickening crunch. My hands pressed against the grass and I moved back as my chest heaved heavily. Blood shed over the garden as Dion took charge, taking the wolves down and injuring them to the point they couldn't injure me.

I watched with wide eyes, his strength.

He was powerful.

Until he was injured himself.

Until one of them managed to beat him down to the ground.

No.

No.

"No," I screamed, trying to lift myself off the ground as the reaming wolves crowded him to the corner and began attacking him. "Don't hurt him."

They stirred all at once, defeating him. His wolf howled in pain and I screamed louder, begging Claudia to not kill him. The smell of blood filled the air.

"Please, don't." There wasn't enough strength in me to cast a spell that could protect him.

"I don't need him to die. Kill her." Claudia said, still standing alive in the midst of chaos.

I knew that my time had come. The wolves turned their attention back to me, their eyes filled with a bloodthirsty hunger while blood dripped from their canines. I tried to crawl away, but my injured leg slowed me down, making me an easy target.

They pounced on me, one by one, attacking my other leg. Pain shot through me, and I screamed in agony, my voice hoarse and raw. With each bite, I felt my life draining away. I struggled to fight back, but I was outnumbered. I tried to cast spells, but they were weak and ineffective against the ferocity of the werewolves.

My vision began to blur and I knew it was going to be over soon.

My final thoughts weren't about the werewolves, or Claudia, it was how I had avenged my mother from my father, how I had killed him, how I had made him feel the same pain I felt now. It was ironic and cruel that in the end, it was me who was going to die by the hands of my father's family and his pack.

Amidst the chaos and pain, I was certain there was no escape. But just as I was about to surrender, a loud and unfamiliar roar pierced through the air, spreading all over. The werewolves immediately halted, their attention drawn to the unknown source of the deafening sound.

"Who was that?" Claudia snapped.

My eyes barely remained open. I turned over the ground, looking ahead at the dark shadow formed in the corner. The shadow grew bigger and bigger until it took on a solid form. It was a massive black wolf, its eyes blazing with an intense fire. It was unlike any werewolf I had ever seen before.

"Run!" She screamed, stepping away from me.

The black wolf wasted no time. It pounced straight at the wolves attacking me and ripped their apart to the point where their bodies were severed. The strength was no match for the black wolf's raw power. It moved with a lightening speed, striking back and killing anyone that neared him.

With heavy breaths, I crawled closer to Dion's body that rested under a tree.

He was still breathing. His chest was rising and dropping, but he was injured. Terribly. Deep gashes and bite marks covered his skin.

"Dion," I choked out, tears streaming down my cheeks. "Don't leave me."

He let out a weak growl, his body trembling with effort. I could tell he was fighting to stay conscious, to stay alive. Just as I was. But my body was failing me.

The pain was too much to bear, and I could feel myself slipping away. My hand rested over his paw, and I fell onto the ground. Our eyes met. His eyes held a glimmer of hope, a promise that he wasn't going to leave me. I held onto that promise tightly, willing it to be true. He could heal.

I couldn't.

My vision started to fade, and the world around me grew dark. I heard the sound of footsteps approaching, but I couldn't see who it was. The man came right beside me. He spoke, but it sounded distant and muffled. I couldn't make out what was being said, or what was happening.

Suddenly, everything went black.
