Silent Snow ~

1 ♡ Two sugars?!

"I am so proud of you, Sofia!"

Sofia braced herself for the crushing hug from Amber as she bounced up and down, her eyes wild with joy. "You were amazing out there! My sister skates like a professional!"

She clasped her hands together before pulling Sofia away from Hugo, not sparing him a glance. "Come on, we have to see the others. I'll describe everything to them in detail! I'll tell them how you perfected the- "

Sofia cut off her gushing with an exasperated laugh. "Amber, everyone else saw it too. I'm sure they don't need you to narrate it again to them."

However, it was too late as Amber had already pulled her into a group of their Royal Prep classmates and was already chewing their ears off with the "details."

"You should have seen my sister...!"

"We all did, Amber..."

Sofia stood off to the side as they all talked and noticed that Hugo wasn't part of the crowd.

"Hugo! Gosh, I left him back at the rink..." She muttered to herself, rushing back to find him.

Spotting him sitting by the far end of the bleachers and untying his skates, she walked over and sat by him.

"Hey, you." She smiled.

He looked up at her, his gaze softening, yet she could still see the sadness beneath it. "Hey."

"What's wrong? Everyone is over at the carriages, and you're sitting here alone."

He sighed, putting his skates to the side and placing his head in his hands. "I know I should be over there and happy, but I don't know... what if the guys make fun of me again?"

Sofia frowned. "What they say doesn't matter, Hugo. It's what you think about yourself that does. Did you feel happy skating with me today?"

He nodded, not meeting her eyes.

"Okay, so why does what the others say matter? What matters is that you had fun. That's all that will always matter." She stood up and walked in front of him, stretching out her hand.

"Come on, let's go get some lavender tea. My mom said she'd save me some for after the show."

Hugo looked up at Sofia and slowly grinned. "Sure." He took her hand.

"Lead the way."

"How many sugars, m'lady?" Violet asked as she placed a glass jar full of sugar cubes on the small table between Hugo and Sofia.

"I'll have two, please." Sofia answered, holding up her teacup for Violet to put the sugars in.

However, Hugo sat mouth agape. "You have two?"

Sofia raised a confused eyebrow. "Should I add more?"

Hugo shook his head. "I was thinking it would be too sweet. Hold the sugar for me, Violet. Thank you."

Violet bowed and left the two alone.

"I love sweet stuff. I always have two sugars in my tea. I feel like it would taste bland without it." Sofia placed her cup down, swinging her legs back and forth.

Hugo stared at her, confused as to why she liked her tea that sweet. "You're interesting."

Sofia giggled. "Is that a compliment, or is that bad?"

Hugo shook his head, a grin creeping onto his lips as well. "Of course not. I find it funny and..."

Sofia raised an eyebrow. "Funny and..?"

Hugo blushed and looked away, clearing his throat. "Nothing, I just forgot my words. Sorry."

"Oh." Sofia pressed her lips together, feeling the atmosphere become awkward. To clear it up, she decided to poke fun at the situation.

"Haha, that happens to me too sometimes. I forget my words, and it becomes awkward. I completely understand what you mean -" She rambled on, looking everywhere but at him.

Suddenly, she was stopped by the sound of him chuckling. "I meant what I said. You're funny, Sofia."

"How?"

"You just are. I'm happy I got to skate with you today. Thanks for bringing me out of my shell." He placed his empty teacup back on the table and stood up.

Walking over to Sofia, he held her hand to his lips and placed a kiss on it. "I look forward to being your skating partner more often."

Sofia sat speechless as he walked out of the room and shut the door.

Feeling her face get warm, she whispered, "I do too."
